I used to have that haircut, its layered, they either do it with layering scissors or a knife, i did it with a layering knife, but some do it like this:

I would think TONS of layers, a straightening iron, pomade, a good blowdryer, round brush and back comb.

haha so i was bored. i should be sleeping and not messing with photoshop. but i reinstalled it bc i couldnt handle not having it.

so i took that pic of the hair i like, put it on my head and changed the color a lil bit. i also have some pics of me with different hair colors too.

hollyxann...wow! That hairstyle looks awesome on you and some skills you got in the photoshop there...if I had seen that pic of you and not known it wasnt actualy your hair I wouldnt have known!

I think for this style you just need the right haircute...bunch of layers...straight iron...maybe some pomade...yup there have already been great suggestions in this thread!

JMO but I would think you would also need some Volumizer at least for the top. I also agree with everyone else on layers, pomade, round brush, and flat iron. That hair looks Awesome on you!! I say go for it! I couldn't tell that wasn't your hair already. Wish I could do that! have lots of choppy layers, especially at the crown.

use flat iron. use flat iron. use flat iron!

tease your crown a little bit.

then use a pomade to seperate hair like hers, and pull some strands out and spray them so they really stand out.

then finish with a high-shine hairspray.
