Is anyone else using a homeade Vitamin C product?

I've read a bunch of studies that show that emu oil helps actives penetrate the skin better - has anyone tried it as a substitute for Vitamin E in their homeade mix?

Just a drop of emu under my eyes really plumps them up, and I was thinking a drop in my homemade mix would be good for my skin and help the Vit C work better/go deeper.

Honestly I was tempted to try it (emu oil) until I did research & figured out what it was from. Def not my cup of tea + im vegetarian. I have heard really great things though.

I'm not using any homemade Vit. C products but I use emu oil daily and love it. I mix it with aloe vera gel and use this as my moisturizer every night. I also like using the emu oil around my eyes.

What does your homemade mix consist of, if you don't mind me asking?

You are correct in that emu oil helps "push" products into the skin. Like you, I use straight emu for the undereye area - it has really helped fill in that dent under the bags and decrease lines as a result. I wouldn't use it as a substitute for vit E in you mix because vitamins C and E work better with each other from everything I've read. Why not just add the emu to your DIY mix or apply it afterwards? What does your mix consist of?

I use just plain old ascorbic acid and tap water.

I found the Vit C at a health food store for $13 a pound! I use one part Vit C to four parts water - it gives me a 20% concentration. I don't save it at all, since it will oxidize and be ineffective.

I mix it up in a little tube and put it on like a toner. I've been adding a teeny little bit more Vit C and putting it on my body, also. My neck, shoulders, and top of my back got a lot of sun when I was a kid, and my arms still get tan even with spf 50 applied several times a day, since I work outside. I figure it can't hurt.

The emu oil is from the same store - $6 for just a small tube, but it should last a year since I need to simply dab my finger on it to get enough for under both eyes. The kind I got isn't refined - it's cloudy and stinks. Since I have no boyfriend at the moment, I don't care.

The emu rules for the under-eye area. I'll have to wait and see how the Vit C makes my skin look - hopefully I'll be able to see some effect in about six weeks.

Yes, it's safe to use. It has never broken me out and i'm very acne prone. It's actually helped to improve the tone of my skin.

Wow - that is a good price! I'd use distilled water vs tap water just because you don't know what might be in your tap water ... for facial application anyway. LOL on not caring if the emu smells ... hopefully you'll have a boyfriend soon and will have to worry about the phew smell :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

sounds great, i got sunburned when i was 20 ( i just moved to fl) and since that one time i have light lines under my eyes. learned my lesson on reapplying my sunblock and wearing my sunglasses.

Hi chelles! and welcome to MUT!

I have been using the asorbic acid straight for years and mixing the Vit E. with it also..it works great! Have not tried Emu oil yet (hard to get where I am) but I have heard raves about it, and like you, would like to try it. I would think that it would be best (don't know, just what I would try..no expert by any means) when used after the C or the C and E. Because I know the C sort of *preps* your skin, making absorbtion of any kind easier;helps the skin retain moisture, etc.....so after that to put the emu oil on would prob. give excellent results! I would like to try this if I can get my hands on some emu oil...*checking on internet*

Correct, Elisabeth, the emu oil should be applied last to help "push" the products into your skin. Hope you have found a source for the emu on the net, there's lots of them out there.

Last night I tried a teeny drop of emu in my mix. Didn't work. I shook it up continuously, but it's such a thick oil it won't mix properly, and it took forever to clean my dropper out.

I'm putting the emu under my eyes after the C. The next time I stop by Walgreens I'll pick up some Vitamin E.

My emu oil comes from a vitamin shop - I paid $6 for a 1/2 oz. plastic tube. It is much, much cheaper than finding it on the internet and paying for shipping.

dianayvonne.com has a good selection of samples - 1/2 oz of refined (it's clear) emu oil for $3.50. I ordered it when I got other samples of Super Cop 2X and 40% lactic acid so I didn't feel so bad about the shipping costs.

Just do not use Vit C and benzoil peroxide together! I use BP on my forehead only, and now it's darker than the rest of my face - I think it reacted with the C and gave me an orange tint. If it doesn't fade in a few days I'll do a lactic peel on it to help speed cell turnover.

How long did it take anyone to notice a change after using the C? I am either imagining things or my skin is actually a bit brighter. I also made some up in a spray bottle and did my entire body. Can't hurt.

Ok. I just ordered some Australian Emu oil from a guy in England off of E-BAY and I'm kinda scared!!!:eusa_pray::eusa_pray::rocknroll2:

E-Bay and all........

I let you guys know when I get the stuff...but I'm really excited to try it now after all I've read!

Got the Emu Oil and tried it for the first time today....:headphonedance::icon_razz

It came nicely packaged from an E-Bay guy with 100% good feedback,

said Emu Oil from Australia on it...good price, etc.

Well, I've got it on my face now...and to tell the truth, it feels very similar to my first cold pressed Soy Oil.

So, I have a dumb, dumb a** question.

How do I know this is really Emu Oil? Ok, it looked a bit different than my Soy Oil as it came out of the bottle, not the same consistency, but...AM I JUST BEING A FREAK? It has no scent (like the Soy Oil). I guess my question is couild someone put Soy Oil into a bottle and sell it as Emu Oil? It just feels almost identical on my skin. Should I just wait? It is only the first day, after all.:icon_scratch:
