Wow! What do I know about going through bad skin years and having the best Dr's. and money to throw at it to make it get better? I hope maybe I can help some of you keep some of your money and hopefully help some of you spend some more wisely. Do I have all the answers? Absolutely not. I'd be a doctor. But I still see a derm 5 times a year because I've ended up with rosacea, the "skin" affecting type lupus and another skin disease that affects my nails. I have suffered the disfiguring type of acne, called acne vulgaris for which I had the surgical type of dermabrasion where they remove the top layer of your skin on your face. Have received laser treatments of several varieties, had many, many surgical scar revisions and have been on many antibiotics for years both topical and internal. Have been on many types of "Skin Doctor's" regimes and potions, did the Obaji routine the retin-A, the Cleocin topical. I was still breaking out until I found a doctor that was not too intimidated by all the legislation to give me Accutane. Then it all stopped. I was able to get a few more scar revisions done, bleach my skin out a bit more, zap a few more rosacea spots. And here I am. As good as I'm gonna get.
My doctor says I can spend all kinds of money on "his" practice's brands that his aesthetician carries there iin his office- but, he says you really only need two things 1) a cleanser EVERYBODY NEEDS THIS no matter dry, oily or combination with Salicylic Acidin it. It doesn't matter how cheap it is. That's your exfoliater to keep the skin loosened to slough off. Even better if it also is combined with a smooth polished bead in it, it also works as a exfoliator. 2) next, you just need a moisturizer. Anything. It doesn't matter if you want tightners, etc. If you feel good about it, great. Just make sure it doesn't contain petroleum in it for use under your eyes.
I always add an eye cream as I'm older and need a bit more hydration. I also prefer to use a sunscreen in my moisturizer- something also to think about when setting your regime up..
In my next post I'll talk about another "real find" that keeps sebum way under control that I found. I am really astonished because it also fills in my very large "holes" I call pores.
I hope this wan't too much preaching for one post. I just have seen it all and see so much stuff that even my daughter falls for that also had to be put on Accutane at age 13. My heart goes out to all of you struggling.
