I've been exfoliating my skin with Baking Soda but i find that after I'm done my skin is a little dry. Is there anything that I can use that will hydrate my skin while using the baking soda? Thanks.

I wash my face with a cleanser and baking soda as well.

Rince a few times to make sure all baking soda is gone; it can be drying.

Pat dry face and right away, apply moisturizer or even a thin layer of vaseline,

to retain the moisture in your skin.

Hope this helps.

I would not recommend vaseline. Go find an intesive moisturizer specifically for the face. Vaseline doesnt let your pores breathe.

Hi,

Good suggestions. You can mix the baking soda with your cleanser (especially if it's a creamy type).

Thanks you guys. I will try these suggestions. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Also I have another question ( sorry I'm new to this whole skincare thing)

Is a facial different from an exfoliator? Meaning how many times should I do a facial vs how many times should I exfoliate?

I have never had a facial so I can't help you with this question.

I would ask the question on a new thread. I bet a lot of MUTers have the answers you are looking for.

i've never heard of anyone using baking soda on there face. does it work good?

Yes it does, but make sure you use something to hydrate your skin or else it will look dry.

I exfoliate my skin with baking soda once a week. I follow up by steaming the skin, using a mask and adding a AHA glycolic treatment on top.

EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) should help. I use this sometimes in the winter

A facial is a series of treatments for the face while exfoliating with a scrub would be just one treatment. (Does that make sense? It sounded better in my head.)

When I get a facial they cleanse, steam, scrub, massage, and apply a mask to my skin. They also do extractions to remove blackhead, white heads, and safely pop pimples if you tell them its ok.

I've read that baking soda is a great scrub, but its very abrasive and that's why your skin feels so dry afterwards. Either mix it with something creamy/moisturizing when you scrub or slather your skin in moisture afterwards.

that is completely untrue. It just depends on your skin type; vaseline may be too emmollient for oilier or normal skin. In fact, jojoba oil is much more pore clogging for oilier skins.

I would mix the baking soda with your cleanser and then moisturize as soon as you are done.

are you using baking soda as a mask? it's been a while, but I really loved doing a mask with baking soda and honey. Just mix both, apply, leave on for 10-20 minutes, you will feel slight tingling (the good kind).

I gently scrub and exfoliate as I wash the mask off, honey is moisturizing, so the skin feels so smooth and looks glowy afterwards!

Oh, and the honey washes off pretty easy. HTH!

I love the idea of baking soda and honey. Honey is not only moisturizing but very healing. I'm definitely going to try this combination....
