As I told everyone earlier, I had a strange allergic (?) reaction to something (I'm not sure what, exactly...) that caused a strange red bumpy blotchy rash on my face...Sooo, I switched cleansers to Cetaphil bar soap, and bought new foundation (Lancome Photogenic), and my skin cleared up. Then suddenly, four days later after my skin got better using the new products, it came back! How would you guys recommend discovering what is causing this? Does it sound like it's the makeup and cleanser? Is it common for skin to clear up with new products, and then suddenly get worse, again? It's so weird...and depressing. UGH!!

if you want to figure out what's causing it, i would stop using everything, and only use one thing at a time.

if you want to see if it's the cleanser, stop using that and just scrub your face with water and a washcloth. something like that to narrow it down.

Agree with Liz.

You might want to check the ingredients on Lancome Photogenic foundation too.

I lost the box for the foundation and I can't find the ingredients listed anywhere online!

I think it would be best to cut everything out altogether, now, too...I'm also wondering if it could be my shampoo...It's just Pantene, but I started using that around the same time, as well, and my chest is a little blotchy and itchy even, but not my neck, where I blend the makeup down into. It's almost like the pattern that would be made if water were running off my head, down my face, onto my chest.

So, if I stopped using everything...Would you wash your face with water, then reintroduce the soap (for how long you think? A week?), then reintroduce the makeup?

I really hope it's not my makeup.

stop everything for a few days INCLUDING makeup then see what happens then gradually add this back

try googling lancome stuff for the ingredients. they might have them listed somewhere on the website...?

I dont know about photogenic foundation being irritating but I know it makes me look like Im wearing a mask in pictures..have you had the same problem. Also try and use moisturizer for atopic skin it really helped my sensitive skin a lot

Hope you get your problem sorted girlie.. I had a breakout a few months back and i found out it was LM Face Primer that was disagreeing with my skin

I read the ingredients as soon as I got the box....and didn't see anything in there that really struck me as disagreeable. If there was 'alumina' and I missed it, that might be causing the problem. I seem to do not so well with aluminum ingredients, although, some makeup never causes a problem.

I'm still going to keep searching for the ingredients, though.

Maph, I did read your thread, and wanted to mention that it was an important thing to know. It's amazing how many truly toxic chemicals go into our everyday products. I'm generally a pretty intense label reader, and there's a long list of stuff I avoid..

What I believe Photogenic doesn't have is Titanium Dioxide, and my skin always does better with products that contain that ingredient.

I don't think it looks mask-like either...Although, after working in a library for five hours, shelving books, running around with a bunch of little kids, I'm not crazy about the way it separates and my face starts looking very very greasy. That is hideous.

Laura, that sucks. I keep hearing that about Laura Mercier, and it bums me out because I really want to buy her cosmetics. Didn't she create that line because she herself had troubled skin?

Are you eating something different? New hair product? New clothing/new laundry soap? Do you have the heat on at home now? I just turned the heat on at night a few days ago and my eczema is going nuts.

It could be something else besides the facial products.

You know, I was wondering that, too...There are two other common threads that I can think of...and it seems to be at it's worst right after I wash my face....A) I've been using Pantene....On the days it was clear, I used baby shampoo.

B) On the days my skin broke out, I was using my Femme Arsenal eyeshadow....I wonder if in the washing process it I rubbed the little metallic and shimmery bits into the pores around my nose and on my cheekbones, because that's where most of the irritation is....When it was clear, I wasn't wearing any shadow.

I also don't usually blow dry my hair, and avoid hot temperatures...It kind of seems like a culmination of a few things....Heat opening pores, washing away protective sebum, and some irritant creating inflammation.
