facewash: gentle, the foaming kind. It doesn´t hurt to get one labelled "for sensitive skin" as a lot of the face washes marketed for oily and acne-prone skin contain alcohol, menthol and other irritating & drying ingredients.

moisturizer: in a gel or serum form, oil-free, preferably even one with 2% salicylic acid to prevent blackheads and breakouts. Even if you´re not breakout-prone, salicylic acid is a good way to chemically exfoliate oily skin

primer: milk of magnesia or Smashbox Anti-Shine (which basically contains the oil-absorbing ingredient that´s in milk of magnesia, but comes in a light silicone base)

Clay masks can also help soak up excess oil. Oh and blotting papers are your best friend! You can even use them right after you´ve applied your foundation, as even some of the supposably matte finish foundations leave behind a little sheen that can turn into oily-looking shine within a very short timeframe.

I have a very oily T-zone and inner cheeks, and it´s annoying as hell. Unfortunately, even with the right products my skin doesn´t produce any less oil. So all I can do is absorb excess oil, which milk of magnesia does wonderfully!

I have really oily skin. I've tried everything, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, prescriptions, all that jazz. None of it worked for me and in fact, it made me break out. I have really sensitive skin though. So this is basically what I use:

Primer: Smashbox Photo Finish on the t-zone only.

Cetaphil Facial Cleanser: Morning and Night. I wash my face before I even think about putting on makeup in the morning.

Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion: Only at night.

Since I started using Cetaphil though, my skin has looked so much better.

Cleanser : aleppo soap, or a gentle cleanser for sensitive skins as Andi said. Lavender floral water is also a good "toner" or just a freshener, lavender works well for combination to oily skins, and the essential is a great spot treatment, if you need one.

In the past i also used Neutrogena's 3 in 1 cleanser&mask, good but after some time, it wasn't as effective.

If you read alcohol, run away ! It's too aggressive and leads you into a vicious circle you don't want to enter. I also agree about menthol.

Look for salicylic acid in your products, it works.

Moisturizer : choose it light, non comedogenic of course, mattifying is a plus. The only one i loved and would recommend is Effaclar by La Roche Posay. If price isn't too much of an issue, L'Occitane rice moisturizer is the best mattifying moisturizer i've found, and you don't need much as it spreads easily, it is more of a gel texture.

If your skin isn't sensitive, AHAs might be good to try, Bioderma has an AHA moisturizer that is quite good.

Sunscreen, in my case particularly sun was devastating my efforts, it's not a particularly good friend for oily skins. I love LRP's fluide extreme range, milky and made for oily faces, you can wear it alone in the morning or under a moisturizer.

Clay masks are in my opinion, a must. They help clean your pores and absorb all the extra oil. Get the green one, it's very cheap and lasts a long time. If you have oily hair, a hair mask with green clay is also a good thing to do. This is something my mother suggested when i was younger and desperate, this truly has helped me. Try this once to twice a week, leave it for about 15 minutes (the range is between 10 to 30 minutes). The trick is to keep the clay moist, don't let it dry on your skin.

Blotting papers, as well as powder to apply after, always in your bag. I suggest rice powder in a small amount (it tends to make you look white if you are too generous) or bamboo sap, it's pure silica and it mattifies really well. FYI bamboo is a grass, in case you're allergic to them.

thanks y'all.. will definitely try your suggestions!

I have much less oily skin since I've been taking zinc pills + vit C. And also Suki balancing toner! I don't have to blot my face during day since I've been using these. I used to clean my face twice a day and still had to blot a few times but now I just clean my face once a day and that's it. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I got my moisturizer from my dermatologist but I don't think it does anything special against oil. Just moisturizes nicely.

I never really had oily skin but my t-zone has been really bad lately, cliniques dramatically different  moisturizer works well on mine. I think I also heard that for oily skin you have to use a water based moisturizer or not sure if it the other way around?

I think less is more.....staying away from products that have alcohols etc....and do not strip the skin..or over-dry it because that actually makes the situation worse.  The skin tries to make up for the dryness I think...or over-cleasning.

The richard steffan switzerland (skincare) products have really worked for me...they have a cleansing milk and facial moisture serum (lotion) that is just fabulous.  It is so light and non-drying.

Hi,

Cleansing can prevent some of the problems associated with oily skin, as it removes the dirt and dust and stops the pores becoming clogged. As make-up can also clog pores, it is important that all make-up is removed before going to bed. Here are some more tips on how to have less oily skin. Aloe vera has excellent healing properties. Burdock root, chamomile, horsetail, oat straw, and thyme nourish the skin. Lavender is very good for oily skin. Mist your skin with lavender water several times daily. Witch hazel applied to the skin is excellent for absorbing oil.

I agree. My skin is oily all over but really noticeable in the T-zone, and horribly on my nose. Cleansing is my best weapon. Recently got an Olay ProX which is a cheap Clarisonic and I feel it cleans my pores so much better than my hands would. My makeup lays down better and I don't get nearly as oily. I also use a cheap bottle of witch hazel from walgreen's. I definitely like that better than other toners. I don't feel stripped after.

I am not saying this is for everyone, but i do love my tea tree. Using it too much will dry your face out for sure, but sometimes after cleansing i tone with tea tree ( pure tea tree) and my cotton ball is completely covered in stuff that cleansing didn't catch. Oh my cleanser is also tea tree. I SWEAR by this stuff. it's been my best friend for ages. I buy that from Puritan's pride alone with  the pure tea tree oil. This is the only cleanser i've tried that will take off any kind of makeup. My eye makeup comes right off ( yes, can sting if you get it in your eyes), but it saves me from having to use eye makeup removers, that have never worked for me.

So my routine now for my oily skin, I wash with tea tree cleanser, use my ProX (sometimes with the cleanser, sometimes with an exfoliant), rinse. Depending on how it feels after, might tone or might put Mario Basedcu healing cream on (works better for me than a normal moisturizer). ( Night time routine)

In the mornings assuming i washed the night before I'll go back over my face lightly with the ProX and warm water. And the more Mario.

HI

I have always had very oily skin. I have tried all cosmetics possible but found that a couple hours in the day my skin will get so shiny, people called my "doughnut face". That's after washing, using an anti-shine toner, anti-shine moisturiser and a bloating powder.

Finally I came across very natural at home cosmetics with the OCM method, what a savior!!! OCM stands for oil cleansing method. They say the best way to get rid of oils and to keep good oils on your skin is to use oils...

1) For my OCM I mix in a bottle very little castor oil, grapeseed oil and jojoba oil and add tea tree and lavender and lemongrass (tones and adds a more pleasant scent to the mix) essential oils. Massage the oil in morning and evening (great make up remover) on my face, eyelids, neck then use a hot flannel to steam my face twice. I remove the oil with the flannel and then seal my skin with cold water. No need for soap before or after, your skin WILL feel fresh and cleansed.

Many known brands have adopted that method and created their own, e.g. Shisheido, Origins, Bobbi Brown, NARS, Lancome, Trilogy... Unfortunately many of those still have chemicals, except Eve Lom, which is the first I ever tried and I love it but is expensive. The cost for my OCM is max £10-15 ($20) for all the ingredients, which make about 2x250ml, each lasting about 5-6months

2) I follow with a homemade toner: witch hazel (£1.50/$3)+tea tree and lavender essential oils. Just spray it on my face let it dry

3) Moisturiser: HAZELNUT OIL (£3 - an astringent with vitamin E and mild UV protection) !!!! This is the BEST moisturiser I have ever used. Keeps my skin soft and non-shiney, sometimes tends to dry it even so I add a few drops of Jojoba oil, which balances oils in the skin and carrot seed (anti-ageing) essential oil

There are many oils combinations you can do depending on your skin and problems you have. Hazelnut works for my oily skin and to gently fade my blemishes.

Please note: Try it for at least 4 weeks for results. You may not tell yourself but people will comment on how fresh your skin looks. When using any new treatment that really works, you'll notice that in the first week or two, your skin will seem worst. That is because it is bringing all the dirt and toxin back to the surface of your skin. Once those have surfaced, your skin will glow!

Good luck!
