Hey, I'm trying to get my mom into some better skincare practices and told her I'd look around for some advice. She has oily skin and large, noticable pores around her nose. Anyone have any recommendations?

Also, simple is better because until recently, a mask or scrub seemed like foreign concepts to her.

Lol, I need something that'll be easy for her to keep up with even after I go back to school.

Hi

Mix lemon juice and cucumber juice in same proportion and apply it for 30 mins before shower.. This is a simple and natural remedy.. Hope this will help you..

Your mom needs to try using an AHA alpha hydroxy acid or BHA beta hydroxy acid.

The BHA is better suited to people with oily skin though.

Agreed that exfoliation is great. Cleansing daily (or twice daily if she wears makeup) is so important. Cleansers with a low concentration of salicylic acid can be useful in clearing out pores and blackheads. Shower time can be a great time to cleanse because the steam relaxes the skin and pores allowing the cleanser to work better.

great advice everyone! I would have to second dragonfly, and say that an AHA would probably do wonders...using a clay mask about 2x a week is beneficial, maybe try some of those oil blotting sheets throughout the day, and use a cleanser formulated for oily skin.

i hav oily skin and now i'm using Alpha hydrox with AHA ... i think this is good for ur mom to renew skin and minimize pores. morover , exfloliate and mask is good too.i recomend u mask juliep of Queenhelene . gud luck

You should introduce her to the Oil Cleansing Method. Its great for dry, normal and oil skin. It just depends on the oil formulation. I would suggest 60% jojoba and 40% castor oil for an oily skin formula. A toner made from 40% witchhazel and 50% rosewater and 10% glycerin.

Makeup remover:

Massage oils on face and wipe off with microfibre cloth.

Deep Cleanser

Massage oils on face for 1/2hr, usually while watching tv. Occasionallu massage oils into your face for that duration. Squirt some witchhazel/rosewater toner into a couple of cotton pads and wipe it off. The oils will dissolve the sebum on the skin and the oils that may be clogging pores. The massaging action will remove dirt trapped in the pores and dead skin as well. The toner will take the excess oils from the skin but leave your face wickedly smooth and well moisturized.

Store bought cleansers for oily skin only perpetuate the problem. It removes the oil, then leaves the skin tight and dry. Your skin will react to this by making more oil, making your skin oil again.

For my skin which is normal, I use 80% jojoba and 20% castor oil. I've been using it for more than a year now. There was a time where my face would get oily during the day but since I've been doing this, I have noticed that I don't have to touch up my makeup ever at work, my lip colour but not foundation, not even on my nose.

I agree with everyone, and if her pores are a bit cluggy you try some pore strips too.

I love pore strips but you have to use them properly. My sister soaks them in water then wonders why they don't work. You only need to dampen them. Hope this helps too! :]
