I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas to help me, since I've turned 35 my skin is going crazy. It will be extremely greasy in my T zone and in the rest severely dry . I used to have fairly good skin and know that body composition can change every seven years but the acne and clogged pores are killing me...please help!

hello iron maiden and welcome to mut. i'm monnie from michigan. i went through the same thing at your age and i had a heck of a time trying to normalize my skin. i think it had everything to do with hormones in my case. i'm using pretty much the same regime now and it keeps the acne under control.
i love aveeno clear complexion foaming cleanser twice per day(salicylic acid is the active ingredient)

1 follow with stridex pads for sensitive skin at night only (again salicylic acid)

i like sundari neem and avocado moisturizer. it's pricey but i hydrates the dry areas without making the oily areas worse. you could also try aveeno skin bright moisturizer with spf15. i use this when i go out without my makeup. don't forget your water! hope you find something here you can use. good luck!

Are you currently exfoliating? That might help too. I'd try something like St. Ives Apricot Scrub (in one of their many formulas).

I am over 40 and I have oily skin as well. My dermatologist gave me a few samples of Clarex OC Oil control gel. This is available without a prescription. Should be found in/near a pharmacy. Wash face and apply to oily areas only.

It will absorb oil throughout the day. Wash face and reappply if needed.

I don't know what to suggest about dry skin - I never use any moisturizer.

My derm suggests washing face no more than twice a day. If you wash your face more often, the oil glands will produce even more oil.

Thanks for all the tips....I would actually like to try aveeno products, this time I won't walk but them!

I used to use St Ives all the time in my 20's.....now I find with exfoliating it seems to irritate my skin more.

I don't ever wash my face more than twice a day, hopefully something can calm this down.!

I have another idea that might help. There is a prescription for topical cream that contains the same ingredient in accutane. It contains 6% accutane in an emollient base.

I have been on Accutane twice. I took pills orally. Within a month, my greasy, oily skin had turned to a nice dry desert. The problem is that you have both dry and oily skin. That is where topical accutance might work because you would only apply where the skin is oily.

Accutane requires a prescription. And because it is an ointment that a pharmacist would prepare, an apothecary might be a better place to fill the prescription. I have called around my town and only apothecaries will fill the prescription here.

I haven't tried the topical accutane yet - maybe next summer. But if it works half as good as oral accutane, you will love the results.

One other thing, on oral accutane, there is blood work required monthly. May or may not be with the topical.

Thanks for the help but I've been doing some research on accutane, I'm pretty sure a topical would not work. Accutane works on sebaceous (oil) glands and they are not on your skin they're in it, I'm quite positive my problem is not severe enough for such a treatment( not nodular acne ) which is why I'm looking for somthing "cosmetic" so to speak.
