I have been facing problems of blackheads and they seem to be getting worse. It really makes you look ugly and I am worried that if they will ever go away. If anyone of you has been in a similar situation or may be if you people know the cure for this, please let me know.

hi and welcome to MuT. i suggest you browse that thread : acne tips, talks and more.

there's no real "cure", all i can suggest is you keep your face as clean as possible. i mean by that avoid touching your face or make sure your hands are clean before. cleanse, scrub and do masks frequently. i especially suggest masks (once a week is enough) because they will deep cleanse your skin. try using gentle products, harsh ones will only make it worse on the long term.

hi pamela and welcome to mut!

now mind you, these are just suggestions, but they've worked well for me.

1. gentle scrub - st.ives apricot is nice and inexpensive

2. gentle mask - queen helene mint julep is excellent on blackheads

3. non comedogenic moisturizer - what are you using now to moisturize?

other questions that might help out in recommending:

1. what's your current regimen?

2. what's your skin type?

i hope this aleast helps get you started to finding some products that might help! keep us posted!

I have had blackheads forever, and wish I could find the magic cure. Nothing seems to work. I guess I will just have to suffer forever!

I use Retin A and I have considerably less blackheads and whiteheads.

It's not a cure all but it certainly does make a difference.

my 14 year old daughter started having MAJOR blackheads/whiteheads and just angry red patches of pimples across her face and shoulders. Her pediatrician put her on retin-A-micro cream (a thin layer before bed), she cleans her face with Cetaphil cleanser, Aveeno redness calming moisturizer applied in the morning, and minocycline (an oral antibiotic pill)

She was on this regimen for a 6 weeks when she saw the dermatologist. While there was some improvement by then, she was still getting new pimples. The dermatologist changed her pill from generic minocycline to the brand name Solodyn, the rest of her cleansing/retin a cream regimen stayed the same as before.

She has been taking the Solodyn pill for two months now.....NO new pimples and NO blackheads....she does have patches of red marks from where the pimples were SO inflamed, but the derm said that within the next month or two that the continued use of the retin a cream should erase all the remaining red marks as well.

I want to add that before I asked her doctor for help with her acne, her skin had steadily been getting worse and worse over about 3 months. I spent way more money and wasted time on every benzoyl peroxide/salicylic acid/tea tree oil product out there only to watch her skin get worse.

I hope what worked for her will help someone else, here's a link about the solodyn the derm put her on: SOLODYN® (MINOCYCLINE HCL, USP) Extended Release Tablets

i used to have horrible black heads i would say these things helped me a lot

1. facials (f oyu dont want to pay as much you can go to the dermatoligist for extractions) but having someone trained to get that gunk out really helps and prevents it from getting pushed deeper.

2. DONT touch your face. i used to always touch my face to see if they were going away, or compulsivly after facials cause i was so suprised at how smooth my skin felt. but touching your skin gets dirt in your pores.

3. Use a gentle scrub, daily... just do this till the amount starts to go down you dont want to irritate the skin if not nessecary.

4. Use some sort of acne mask at night (i had something called time to remove from the local spa it was just a light acid that dried out the top of your skin.) i used to apply it let it dry than put moisturizer over it

so i cant garuntee these things will work for you but they really helped me

The best way to remove blackheads is to remove the cause of them -- excessive sebum (oil) and dead skin cells. Sebum is an oily secretion of the body and when it becomes trapped in the skin it results in acne and blackheads. The best way to deal with a problem is to know the basic cause for it and then deal with it. So, I advice you to go for a product that contains Vitamin B5 that helps to get rid of too much sebum. The sebum which is produced in excess will be reduced and this will be a benefit for your skin. A product called has a good amount of Vitamin B5 and you can use this to cure your problems. I do recommend the use of this product that has Vitamin B5 as this vitamin is a harmless vitamin and you will be benefited if you try to reach the core of the problem rather than keeping it to the surface.

My skin was so bad early on that I had to steam my face over a large bowl of hot water with a towel draped over my head, just to get it ready for exfoliation. But once those dead skin cells were peeled away, my skin started to come around rapidly. I don't spend a lot of money or use lots of products, just apple cider vinegar, a no name clay mask, baking soda as an exfoliant, and cheap lotion to moisturize after exfoliating only (my skin is too oily for daily moisturizing), but the results I needed came from a regular moderate routine.

Go get a professional facial to get them "extracted". That is the only way. Then make sure you keep your skin clean. Change your pillow case also.

i love origins charcoal mask. i use it one a week and trust me youll put it on and the second you wipe it off youll see that its working. its the only thing that worked for me. just dont use those strips that pul them out because they make your blackhead bigger.

Avon correct and fade peel pads, they will bring every one of those baby's to the surface.

I get blackheads too and I use an aspirin mask every week or so. It makes them really easy to extract and cuts down on any redness. If you're interested, I can post what I do and how I make mine

I am constantly picking at my own face and have been cleaning out my own blackheads for years. This is what I do:

I steam my face for about 10-15 minutes to open up the skin. Once my skin is soft, I push out my blackheads. Once I have finished that, I cleanse my face to wash off all the access dirt. If the area that I popped is red, I apply some kind of drying lotion to calm it. I use Mario Badescu's drying lotion and love it.

I do also agree with everyone elses recommendations. You should be getting a facial every few months. Your cosmetician can recommend a good exfoliater for you to use at home. Plus, keeping your hands off of your face is major! Touching your face can lead to breakouts because of germs, oil and dirt!

honestly people always say that you aren't supposed to pop/squeeze your acne, but i've been doing it for years and i have no scars on my face and my acne disappears the first day i see it.

after i get out of a hot shower (that way the hot water/steam opens up my pores) i just put both of my index fingers around the blackhead i want to get rid of and squeeze gently until it pops out. i do this for my boyfriend sometimes too (i don't always come right out of the shower, sometimes i just do it randomly) and it works just fine. make sure your hands are clean before you start, and try not to apply anything to your face right after you've finished squeezing your blackheads, your pores are now open and putting something in it can cause another, bigger blackhead to appear in it's place.
