Heavenly Hydrators
by Amy Tara Koch
It's such a thrill to dump our chunky knits, to-the-knee boots and cashmere capelets for lighter, brighter spring trends. If only our skin could make the transition from winter to spring with equal ease. The shift in season tends to dry out our skin and hair, and we need all the help we can get to look refreshed for spring. Luckily these ultra rich hydrators promise to do the trick. Here are my top choices:
Hollywood Insider
Known as Hollywood's fairy skin princess, Sonya Dakar's celebrity clients all flock to her Hydrasoft cream to moisturize and fight wrinkles. The non greasy blend of ceramides, Pro-vitamin B, vitamin E and shea butter restores moisture, soothes irritated skin and promotes a healthy glow. Just ask Gwyneth. Sonya Dakar, Hydrasoft Cream, $75 at Sonya.Dakar.com.
Flower Power
This natural humectant moisturizes while allowing skin to breathe naturally. Combine 2 drops of pure rose oil with your facial cream to amp up the moisture factor. The rose oil hydrates the skin without clogging pores. Epicuren Discovery Bulgarian Rose Otto, $48, at BlueGiraffeSpa.com.
Oil Foil
Bobbi created this product to address dry skin that needs that "extra" boost. For enhanced hydration, warm a dollop of oil in the hands and gently pat it over makeup. The moisture will smooth fine lines and replace that unsightly "cakey" look with a dewy glow. Bobbi Brown "Extra" Facial Oil, $55.00, at NeimanMarcus.com.
Rosy Glow
In dry weather, slapping on moisturizer under makeup is often not enough. When your face feels tight and dry during the day, restore moisture with a quick shpritz of this rosewater based mister. It will hydrate without smudging makeup. Jurlique Pure Rosewater Freshener, $31, at Jurlique.com.
Open Sesame
It may not be the newest product on the block, but it is one of the best. Slather cracked hands with this avocado oil and sesame oil infused cream. For deeper penetration, put hands in ziplock bags after applying cream while you watch the evening news. Kiehl's Ultimate Strength Hand Salve, $19.50, at Kiehls.com.
Lemon Aid
Add a dash of tropicalia to your moisturizing repertoire with this zesty body cream. A Bigelow favorite since 1870, shea butter, kukui nut oil and vitamin C charged lemon extracts penetrate and soothe chapped skin. C.O. Bigelow Lemon Body Cream, $19.50, at Bigelowchemists.com.
Sexy Skin On a Budget
Inexpensive yet highly efficient, Curel's rich, non-greasy, formula calls upon eucalyptus leaf, orange oil and shea butter. For best results, apply when skin is moist after bathing. Curel Ultra Healing Lotion, $8.99, at most drugstores.
