Healthy skin, contrary to popular belief, is NOT costly! There are many inexpensive ways to ensure that your skin is kept in tip-top shape. All it takes is a little time and consistency.

That's not a lot to ask for! According to Dermal Therapy "skin is the largest human organ and is the body's first line of defence against bacteria and other harsh elements."

Dry parched skin is especially prone to "bacteria and viral infections." The obvious in such a case would be to keep the skin moisturised, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you need moisturising lotion. In fact, good skin begins from the inside!

Your skin is a reflection of internal occurrences, as Elisabeth O'Brian, Nd, explains: "skin is the largest eliminative organ in the human body. Emitting one third of the body's impurities." O'Brian, along with many other skin specialists nation wide, suggests that a proper diet and a healthy lifestyle are crucial in maintaining great skin. This encompasses "decreasing dairy and over processed foods as well as bleached flours and sugars. Chocolates and nuts are also causes of excess oil production", says O'Brian. "Maximising fruit and vegetable intake (50%-75% of a diet) is also recommended."

Smoking, stress, dry air, and lack of exercise cause unhealthy skin. Physical activity helps tone, improve circulation, and reduce stress, and humidifiers are ideal in dry winter months, especially if you have central heating. As well, try to stay out of the sun, wear a hat or use an SPF lotion to protect you from harmful UVA and UVB rays.

To relieve irritated skin O'Brian recommends applying "fatty acids such as primrose or flaxseed oil."

Drink up! The body needs at least 6 glasses of H2O per day to maintain a healthy glow.

Last, but not least, take your vitamins! Vitamin B helps maintain healthy skin, Vitamin E improves circulation, and Vitamin C prevents tissue damage and assists healing.

Before you suffer yet another beauty counter trauma, please reconsider whether you really need another skin product. Perhaps a daily walk in the park is all your skin requires. Your body and your bank account will thank you for it!

So, be sure to take care of your skin, inside and out, for a healthy glow!

Quick Tips

  • Keep skin moisturized
  • Maximize Fruit and Veggie intake (50-75% of a diet)

Somehow I can't force myself to drink more than 3-4 glasses of water a day. But I'll keep trying.

Thanks for the info!

I'm guilty of a lot of these actually! I eat a lot of nuts, and dairy products! Guess I should cut back..
