I was brushing my hair today and looked down and on my shoulder were a few little pieces of hair that looked like they have just 'snapped' off! i know this is because i have over dyed my hair recently...but how can i fix it before it gets worse?? :scared:

I have the same problem! little bits that have snapped, ive been worried my hair will get thinner! Ive just recently had mine dyed too so could be that

you were brushing your hair. thats a good reason. brushing your hair is NEVER good. although the majority in the hair care forum do brush, it's best to use a comb. i havent used a brush in years.

I would take the snapping as a sign to get a trim.

My hair does the same thing about 2 months after my last cut.

For me it is better to get a trim than it is to keep the damaged ends and risk split ends travelling up the hair shaft, and causing even more damage.

After I get my hair died it breaks. I've been using pantene restoratives along with taking GNC NourishHair and my hair hardly falls out at all. It's made such a differnce for me.

yep. using a wide tooth comb is way better for your hair, and it makes sense. instead of brushing which causes split ends, it can gently comb through the hair without causing damage or breaking the hair off. last year i bought the burts bees avacado butter pre shampoo treatment in a kit that came with a wide tooth comb and a shower cap, and thats the comb i have been using ever since. i havent seen a difference because my hair is so damaged to begin with, but i feel better knowing im minimizing the breakage. you can get wide tooth combs anywhere really.

oh gosh girls thanks for all the info, well i wont be brushing with a brushanymore only a comb, and i will be getting a trim and going to start looking after my hair, all these problems are all recent so im thinking my hair is in need of some tlc...thanks Nic

How's does it snap? Because if it stretches too much like bubblegum and then snaps you might need some keratin treatment.

you can still use a brush, but invest in one with natural hair, it's more expensive but it will last for years and it's more gentle than a synthetic.

it's true it's best to use a comb, especially to detangle it after a shampoo (or each time it's wet). but if you have medium/long hair, i don't think you can totally avoid using a brush.
