Hair Salons/Hairstylists/HAIRDRESSERS

How important is the hair salon that you get your hair done at? I already have the exact style, color, EVERYTHING I want my hair to be, after lots and lots of careful thought but I'm lacking one thing: a place to get it done at. I live in North Louisiana and I can't find any really fancy salons like TONI&GUY or Mia & Maxx and that's what I really want because I don't want to be like most people and drive 10 years down a dirt road to your relatives shack to get your hair cut. So how exactly do you find the best salon in your area? And when you find it, what do you do? Just make an appointment, and then go in and show them pictures of the hairstyle/haircolor/eyebrow shape you want? And then you get it? I know I'm asking for a lot of details but I just want to make sure that I get the best that I possibly can. There are so many independent hair stylists around but I've had the worst experiences with them (my eyebrows are just now growing back normal.. x_x) and I never get the hairstyle that I request. I just want to go to the best place that I possibly can.

below is a list of SALONS THAT I DO KNOW OF IN MY AREA, all owned by Regis Corp. I really wish we had a Mia & Maxx. :

Smart Style (yes, the WAL*MART salon)

and then here are the ones that are at a mall near me

MasterCuts

Regis Hairstylists

Trade Secret

Yeah, not the best selection. I hope I can find something better. Are any of the salons that I listed any good? And please share all your hair salon opinions/stories.

hi, i'm actually from new orleans!

i have the same problem, finding THE hairstylist.....and i'm very picky

i personally would never look up some random person in the phone book and just go to him. this is your hair that you're talking about, and it could make or break your face. its hard to go by the name of the salon, because every salon has differnt stylist, and every stylist have their own techniques. for some reason, i personally like guys to do my hair.

i don't have a problem with randomly going up to people i meet at school or work and ask them where they get their hair done at. i like to see a "sample" of the person's work before i go there....but if you are short on choices, bring lots of pictures, tell him what you want, and also be sure to tell him precisely what you don't want.

good luck, and just remember that hair does grow !

Also... go online and read reviews first. See what other clients have to say. Perhaps they all tend to like one stylist... maybe there's one to avoid. It helps to know before you go, because a lot of people tend to 'clam up' once they get in the chair. Bring your pictures, be very specific ... and get a consultation first. Most salons will give you one free of charge. When you're talking to the stylist, get a feel of them by what they say, and how well they listen to your ideas. You want to be on the same wavelength as your stylist, and if you both know what you want ahead of time, there is less chance for disappointment later.
