I use Sally Hansen hair removal creams (depilatories) to remove my arm hair. Its a 3 minute formula that quickly removes hair. The problem is that for up to 3 days later I get these bumps on my arms and my skin is quite itchy. Does anyone get this prob too? Is it my skin or the cream. I dont want to stop because it does such a good job, I just need advice on either preventing it from happening or switching to a new product. Thanks

Aloe Vera and certain oils help reduce redness and itching. I forget what it's called but Andrea waxing kits have some oil that gets rid of bumps and redness and makes the stinging go away.

Thanks. I think maybe I need to switch to a different company because the bumps have now gotten rough. I think winter is just really rough on my skin :nzd: (I just really liked this smilie)

I would be really cautious using a depilatory every three days. They are very harsh on your skin, which is why you are getting the bumps and irritation. For awhile I was using depilatory creams once a week, and I ended up getting fairly severe chemical burns on my legs. I don't normally have sensitive skin, and I had only put it on for a minute (if even), before the burn started developing. By the time I was able to wash it off my legs had blisters over them. Wearing pants was very painful for quite awhile until the burn cleared up.

If your skin is reacting to a depilatory, I would really recommend listening to what it is telling you. Maybe a different brand will be more mild and won't give you the same problem, but personally after my experience I would never try it again.

I think you are right, the bumps did seem rather blister-like and now it's been a few days and I still see them. I think the formula is just too harsh. I am now going to Nair with Baby Oil, hopefully that's a bit gentler.

I'm glad to hear that you are trying a different brand before it gets worse and you get chemical burns. If you don't find Nair with Baby Oil is gentler maybe try using it less frequently, or go in to get a wax done. You could also buy an at home wax kit, if you're like me and don't like to spend money. Plus with waxing you only need to do it about once a month.

Hi,

Good luck with trying out the gentler version. Hope it works for you.

A lot of people on here were saying that Veet is gentler than Nair and gets the hair off. I agree, I have sensitive skin , Veet still makes me itch but once I've rinsed off with cool water Im fine.
