hair color help!?

After several years of bleaching my hair, and dealing with dark roots every 4-5 weeks...I have decided to go a little dark with my hair color and just have a few hilites put in. I am TERRIFIED of this after being blonde for so long now. I have had other stylist add lowlights in, but they always seem to turn greyish kinda of just a really dull color after a couple days. I want to go maybe a darker golden blonde-light brown....my friend who is also a stylist will be doing this for me in a couple weeks, she told me she will be putting a gold filler on my hair before coloring it..can someone explain what this is to me, and also what would be a good color to go with?? I don't want anything that will turn grey, green or any other weird color, but brown...also should i go with lighter blonde hilites or will that make the blonde look grey next to the darker color, or go with golden blonde hilites!? any help or suggestions would really be appreciated!

I'm currently a student for Cosmetology. For hair, there are color levels. Lets say you're naturally dark and went blonde. When the color is stripped by bleach, it takes the colors out in levels. When its being bleached you can see the color change from dark to redish to orange than yellow. When you want to go dark again, you have to put those colors that you took out back in in order to get back to where you want it or the desired darker level. Thats what your friend is talkingabout when she says filler. otherwise if you go from straight blonde to a darker color it'll turn this ugly green color. Trust me, done that, been there.
