I love the 8% Glycolic Acid Toner by NeoStrata, but the problem is that it makes my skin pink/red. Is there anything that can be done? Should I dilute it with water? Should I use it as a make-up remover/face-wash, will it work the same?

Thanks!

If you're using it everyday, that basically means that you're exfoliating the top layer of your skin each day, which is excessive. 8% concentration is very high as well, so I would say to use it less frequently and dilute it with water. If you have young skin, you don't need such intense application of AHAs.

I agree with FeverDream. You may want to find a product with a lower % of Glycolic Acid. Or try just using it every other day, rather than every day. Those AHA's are harsh if your skin is not accustomed to them.

I wouldn't use it as a make-up remover/face wash. You could either find a GA product with a lower percentage or use the GA product you're using now but not as often.

Yeah, I agree with all the above. You should stop using it so frequently..orrr..just dilute it. I remember I was using something similar everyday..and I actually started to break out (not acne..but my skin became very irritated) from it. I had to treat it with aloe vera for a couple of days..and soon everything subsided..thank God. Don't use it as a face wash..because it will lose it's effectiveness..it's not meant for that. Start using it maybe once a day..every other day..and make sure you moisturize with it. These acids tend to exfoliate our skin..and over exfoliation will cause the redness and possible breakouts.

Wow! I'm so glad another person finds this stuff amazing. This is my HG! It really saved my skin. My derm first perscribed this to me and she also added 2% clindamycin to it. I basically get it for free (with health insurance!)

Definely do NOT use it as a face wash. I use mine only 1x a night after I cleanse my face and that's it. I sometimes do get redness (although hardly ever), but applying a gentle moisturizer (like Cetaphyl) after toning can help calm the skin and ease the redness. My best advice is to use it at night before you go to sleep and moisturize always!

Good luck :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I stopped by a medspa couple of weeks ago and when I was there the lady started asking me about my skin care. I use glycolic too (but I've gotten used to it) anyhow she said you shouldn't be using that type of product more than 3 times a week. It's really harsh on the skin. Also, be sure to wear lots of sunscreen!

I agree with the above and the sunscreen bit is vital. I wouldn't use anything less than spf25

If there is a lot of alcohol in the toner, that could cause the redness in combination with the glycolic acid.

I use a glycolic acid toner from mario badescum, when I first got it I would use it every day. my skin felt smooth to the touch but was painfully tight! I now use it just one or two times a week, along with a origins microdemabrasion once a week, and i slather on a lot of moisturiser afterwards. Works for me!

Ref: Glycolic Acid

I use the pads from Dr. Denese, and they have 10% (or around that amount) glycolic acid. She recommends starting with once or twice a week, and eventually building up to once a day. However, if your skin is very sensitive, you may stay with the several times a week routine. Also, if you're in your 20's, you shouldn't be using this type of product - and it most likely will irritate your skin. Good luck!
