I did my first 30% glycolic acid peel on saturday. I started breaking out on sunday and I was wondering if this could be bc of the peel. I am a little confused because I thought the peel would prevent the breakouts not cause them. I am not sure what else couldve caused me to breakout, I was pretty clear before using the peel. Any advice would be great!!! Thanks :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

a deep peel can bring out a ton of impurities...this is pretty normal...it can also be a sign of irritation--if your skin is very red and irritated for longer than 2 weeks, you might be very sensitive to the peel.

I did a 50% GA yesterday for one minute. I'm not "breaking out" like you, per se, but I have noticed 3 small (eraser head sized) spots that appeared this morning. They're pale reddish-tan and just marks (ie not raised or looking like a zit). Hopefully, as rocknrollgoddes thinks, they're just impurities that came to the surface and will go away within another day or two. Maybe a bho will help you - that's what I'm putting on them tonight.

Ah, I see Kim popped in with the same thoughts, so it must be so - lol - just impurities getting out of our faces.

Yea I think breakout was a bit extreme, it is more like 3-4 new spots all at once. I have been putting ACV and tea tree oil on them so that should help. Thanks guys, just wanted to make sure there wasnt something wrong, I figured it was most likely the peel bringing out the impurities.

kim, do you get micro in office? or do you do it yourself? a friend recommended i get a hand held brush to micro my crows feet..i am trying to find someone who has done this and likes the results--thats the ONLY area of my face i have complaints about..i dont mean to hijack the thread, but you mentioned micro..thanks for any help.

Hi RRG, You addressed this to Kim, but I too use micro so thought I'd pop in. I don't like the hand-held units that go in a circular motion (via battery), nor do I think I would like to use any sort of brush. I like to "feel" what I'm doing, directly, and the middle finger is perfect - more control. I use my little finger on the undereye area because there's less chance of me forgetting what I'm doing (I'll often read or watch TV when I micro) and rub too hard on that delicate area. The micro has worked wonders! I'm 59 and had a LOTS of fine and, er, 'not-so-fine' lines. The fine lines are pretty much gone and the deeper ones are greatly diminished after only 7 weeks. I'm using Epidermx, which is what Kim uses. Microdermx is also good. The other micros have too many extraneous and/or unnatural ingredients. HTH

I just did a peel about 4 days ago at a skin salon I go to for milder peels and facials regularly. So, far I've never broken out at all with a peel, micro derm or any facials.

I would tell you this - in the future for a week PRIOR to do a peel you seriously need to be doing a prep kit to get the skin ready. Cosmedix sells a great prep kit - it contains an exfoilating cleanser, 4% retinol for night time and a lactic acid solution for daytime under moisturizer. It totally works, you will see your skin slightly begin to slough in the week you use these products. This type of prepping loosens up the skin and prepares it for a peel - it also helps with the impurities under the skin to cleanse them out.

The salon told me DO NOT after a peel for at least 4 days apply any moisturizers - it will slow down natural sloughing and clog up the pores. All I've used for 4 days is - cleanser and a light facial sunscreen in my prep kit. I was told if i saw any pimples to take a q-tip to apply just the zit cream only to that area...or if I had a bad dry patch to take a qtip to put the balm only on that area...do not coat the skin or apply all over to an area. Also, the salon told me if you touch at your face alot after the peel you can cause breakouts....I posted in another area the salon told me when it comes to after care of peels - patience is the hardest part. Believe me, I feel like she is so right...but i have to say my pores looks smaller and i can see a change already.

Hi kam_621 you can perform peel at home all you have to do is buy the Glycolic peel solution and you can do it once a week. I've just discovered glycolic peels 2 weeks ago so i'm now on my 2nd week of treatment. No need to pay too much for a salon peels.
