Does anybody know its properties?? I've heard that glycerin helps lock in water's moisture, that's why its best to use glycerin soap.. I'm now thinking if I can add some glycerin to my shower gel and get the same effect?

That's pretty much the extent of my knowledge about glycerin as well. If you get a moisturizing shower gel, it should already be in there, but I don't know anything regarding the efficacy of straight glycerin added into regular shower gel.

I looked at the ingredients of all my shower gels and none of them had it in there... I think they had something-glycol but I don't know if it's the same thing...

Thanks for looking it up, Miarnhat. Actually the 3 shower gels that I have sitting in my shower all contain Propylene Glycol, which is apparently a humectant and a softening agent for the skin as is Glycerin. Meh I'm still gonna try to mix glycerin into them and see what happens :4:

Your Welcome, Try and let us know..Becarefull though..Best of Luck

I have vegetable glycerin that I mix into my moisturizer and it works well. Dont know about the shower gel though. Keep us posted.

Time for an update..

I've mixed glycerin with my shower gel... and I think that it actually is more drying to my skin than anything... Another thing that leaves me skeptical about the "benefits" of glycerin is that I've been using it mixed with water when I wear glitter on my eye lids.. Recently my eye lids have been dryier than EVER, to the point where it itches and I actually have dry patches (I've NEVER had that before).. I am not sure about this yet but I suspect that the glycerin might be the culprit....

Also today I found this article on substances generally present in skin care, and here's what it says about glycerin:

Glycerin

A syrupy liquid that is chemically produced by combining water and fat. Glycerin is used as a solvent and plasticiser. Unless the humidity of air is over 65%, glycerin draws moisture from the lower layers of the skin and holds it on the surface, which dries the skin from the inside out.

Note though, that I haven't been using glycerin/water mixed with a lotion. Perhaps that's the problem. I've noticed many lotions that claim to be "super-moisturizing" tend to contain glycerin. And a lot of sites suggest that in a lotion, glycerin is a good thing. :dong:
