Hello

I seem to have a problem with breaking out these days . I've always been acne-prone, but my acne seems to be not-so-normal. Instead of the typical whitehead, I get these red dots on my cheeks. I've never gotten one anywhere else but my cheeks. It starts out looking like a pimple, then it just gets big and inflamed red, and never comes to a head. It just sits there, forcing me to use cover-up every day, and I hate it!! My dermatologist said that my skin doesnt' exfoliate well enough, and I get these as a result. I was prescribed doxycycline and differen gel, which did absolutely nothing. I've never heard of anyone else having this problem. Does anyone know how to take care of these or has any experience with this type of acne? Sorry for the long post.

Do you wear much make up? I don't know if this is the case but sometimes i have broken out from not removing my make up properly. Also try exfoliating, Neutrogena has a really nice scrub it's their new one and is called "Oil Free Acne Stress Control Power-Clear Scrub". HTH

It sounds like we have the same problem! They don't come to a head, it just gradually gets smaller until it just leaves a scar. I have a lot of scars on my cheeks, even though I never touch them, but they always seem to leave a scar, which I guess is better than a pimple. Where do I get this mask?

If your doctor says that your skin is not exfoliating well enough, then you might want to consider using an AHA or BHA with your prescription meds.

These are considered chemical exfoliants, that help to remove the dead cells on your face. The BHA is better for oily skin.

With respect to prescription medications, they may take several weeks or months to show results. How long did you give them a chance to work?

As well, they may make your skin more prone to sun damage - are you using a good sunscreen to protect your skin?

My makeup has good sunscreen so I only rely on that for my sunscreen.

Yep, sounds like we have the same problem as well. I posted earlier on this subject. The bumps are huge and red and hurt like heck. The estitician thta works at my salon says they look cystic, which is an infection of some sort on the skin. And she told me to see a dermitologist (yada yada yada lol) Which I am going to do after I try one last thing. I ordered some essential oils and other natural ingredients that I am going to try for this problem. If they don't work then I will be forced to go to the dreaded doctor ahhhggggg! lol

the essential oils seem to help, but careful with them please, because they can leave a nasty burning feeling which i assume is not the best option for a skin already fragilised by inflmmation. maybe try lavender, it's more gentle that the fruity essential oils, or even tea tree.

i agree neutrogena has some good exfoliators you could try. my best advice would be to exfoliate more (but gently) on that area, use a gentle moisturizer, and sunscreen. i believe in the "do less instead of too much" philosophy in that case.

i will also suggest a mask, if you don't do some already, as they will clean deeply your face (just some green clay and water is fine). i can't also help but suggest Alep soap, which is available in healthfood stores, for a few euros, and has helped my skin a lot. i don't know if it's available in the U.S. though.

How about retin a micro, that exfoliates your skin. A good preventative measure would be to exfoliate with a harder scrub, try st.ives, then use a salicylic acid toner, then an alpha hydroxy moisturizer that's oil free.

Thanks guys

I thought I was exfoliating enough when I use a washcloth and a scrub, but maybe not. To answer Carolyn, I was on the meds for 2 months, and then I was sick of taking the pills and putting on the cream after seeing no results, so I stopped, and nothing really changed. Sometimes it gets better, sometimes worse, I'm trying to pinpoint what it is that causes it, and I can't seem to. I'll look into some better exfoliators though.

Ok, to show how much of an airhead I am...

I was wondering what the mint julep mask was, and I had never heard of the Queen Helene brand before, so I googled it, only to be taken to their website. It showed a picture of all the Queen Helene products, and one looked oddly familiar. It was the Grape Seed Extract Peel Off Masque that I use every week!! Haha, I never looked at the brand before, as I got it at our local dollar store. I thought it was just a cheap mask, but now I definitely know where to get the mint mask! I'm definitely going to give it a try!

I got it at the Family Dollar. Is it very popular? I've never heard of it before reading it here. Has anyone had good luck with it?

i hate it when i get those pimples.. its like.. those pimples never really pop out a lot. but when you touch the pimple u can feel that under your skin there is a big HUGE bump that is unbearable.. i recently had one. i tried to pop it... now i have a scar and hard internal bump is still there.. iono.. i had one between my nose and my lip once.. i took a needle and popped the s#%t outa it... all this puss came out which was great.. and blood after.. im fine with scars.. its the painful acne thats a b*%$h

Go to your local cosmetics store and buy Mario Badescu's drying potion. It works miracles. If you want to make your own drying potion at home you can. Just mix together: 1/3 cup of aloe vera juice, 9 drops of lavender extract and 5 drops of tea tree oil. This clears up pimples but beware; it stings.

I once heard you should put toothpaste on the pimple because it dries it out. Don't know if that was just a joke though
