what's new out there for the girls sporting afros and kinky curls? has anyone tried ojon hair treatment yet?:icon_roll

Haven't tried it, I'm really into using 100% filtered shea butter and this is pretty much the same. I've seen it demonstrated on QVC several times.

Hey speerrituall1, why do you like your shea filtered? Doesn't that remove some of the butter's properties?

Well, the only new product I'm trying is MTG oil, based on recs from the Longhaircare message boards. It's supposed to stimulate growth, but I've only been using it for a little less than a month. So, we'll see.

check out the link below for the new products i'd like to try next. i've been using a combo of dark & lovely naturally and john freida frizz eaze. my hair is kind of thin so it's seem hard to get the right mix of curl and kink. what are some of the products you ladies are using to maintain your natural styles?

Hello,

I receive my shea butter direct from Nigeria. Filtering is a very important part of the manufacturing process. Filtering refers to when it is poured through cheese cloth to cleanse. This is a very important step. Checkout this site: www.goldrvr.island.net/~ydrums/SheaButterStory.htm

My shea butter is not purchased, from them, it is brought back by relatives.

the pure shea butter we see here still seem to have some bark and sticks in some cases. does this process reduce some of this residue?

do you use the shea butter on your hair also and does it break out your skin?

i use it on my body, but never on my hair. i'm prone to acne breakouts and try to be careful about the oil content in my hair products.

I use shea butter as a hair mask at least once every two weeks in winter. I apply it sparingly before shampooing, cover with a plastic cap and sit under a heated dryer/heating cap for 15-30 minutes. I then remove the cap and shampoo immediately before it rehardens. My hair comes out extremely smooth and shiney. Great hot oil treatment.

my skin will breakout if i put anything with too much oil in it on my scalp and i wash my face twice a day, so it's not a cleansing issue as much is it's a skin type issue. i have normal to oily skin that is also acne prone. you must have normal skin. did you ever breakout as a teenager?

No, I have combo skin, oily in the T-zone. Didn't have a breakout problem as a teenager but my mom took me to a dermatologist that recommended Aveeno products, which I have passed on to my son. I use Aveeno Positively Radiant products--cleansing bar, liquid cleanser, Queene Helen Mint Julipe mask, baking soda as an exfoliant and the aspirin mask(salicylic acid). That's what I mean when I say habitual.

wow - our routine seems to be very simular. I use aveeno clear complexion cleanser to remove my makeup in the evening, stridex pads for sensitive skin to tone and exfoliate, and sundari neem and avocado moisturizer. i also use murad clarifying cleanser with 1.5% salicylic acid in the mornings. haven't needed to use a masque since i started this routine and my breakouts have been minimal. i do use the Queen Helene Mint Julep masque in many of my facial services. i think it's a really great product.
