So I want to get a facial but have no clue how to go about it. What are some of the things that I should know prior to getting a facial? Are there different types of facials? How do I know which one is right for me? What can I expect before/during/after the facial? :rotfl:

TIA!

Have a consultation with your facialist beforehand to discuss your skin type and any other issues you feel need to be discussed. Usually first your face will be steamed to "open" your pores and the extractions will usually be done, the facialist will use a tool to extract blackheads and such. She will press down and remove the blackheads. This might be a bit uncomfortable. But if you feel she is too rough, speak up!! Then she will place a mask on your face. It has been so long since my last facial I forget the rest of the steps! Forgive me!

1. Identifying your skintype and making sure the facialist uses products suited for your skintype.

2. If she starts overextracting, tell her/him not to.

3. Expect that your face might be red/irritated afterwards (don't plan to go to any event afterwards, like I did!).

Enjoy it, and let us know how it went!

1)i agree that a thorough consultation must be first! make sure to disclose as much information about your skin and what you're expecting as possible.

2)make sure the esthetician explains everything she's going to do and why during the consultation! be sure to ask questions about anything you don't understand!

3)i never like to be too agressive on the first trip. for the first visit i want the client to have a pleasent experience. it should be relaxing and nothing should give you discomfort. if you are uncomfortable in any way, speak up immediately!

4)relax and enjoy! i feel that a client that falls asleep in my chair has had an excellent experience!

5)when the service is complete you should feel refreshed and renewed. your skin should appear moist and dewy. ask the esthetician if she noticed anything about your skin that you did not cover in the consultation.

6)ask for product recommedations. it's always goods to know what a pro would suggest, even if you don't follow the advice.

7)save any agressive procedure for your next visit and remember not to expect miracles! your skin didn't get the way it is overnight and one service won't correct all of your problems.

8)and this is the most important, be sure to post all of your thoughts about the experience! lol~

HAVE A WONDERFUL FACIAL!:11a:

Wow! Great tips everyone! I've never had a professional facial. It's definitely up there on my list of things to do though. Steve still owes me a "spa day" from Christmas. lol...

Wow, will you do my facial?

I would definitely go to you!

Marisol, let us know how it goes. I haven't got one yet, reading your post makes me feel like getting one though. :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

When I do facials, I ask clients about their skin care routine and how they find their skin (ie dry, oily… etc) in the consultation and what they want to get out of it (ie improved skin condition, clearing up breakouts, comedone extraction … etc)

Then I can decide what they need.

They differ depending on whether it's a regular facial / electrical facial etc but generally the order is something like this…

Skin analysis

Cleanse

Tone

Exfoliate (under steam)

Extraction (if needed)

Massage

Mask

Tone

Moisturiser

Product recommendations and aftercare advice
