So I finally went to a proper MAC store and got my foundation match and I'm an NC30!

The funny part of the story is that when I walked in initially, they started me of at an NC45! Every time I tried to get my foundation matched at Sephora or another store, they darken me up so much. I don't know what it is about my skintone that makes me APPEAR so much darker, but none of the MUA ever listen to me when I say, "No, I'm really not that dark!"

We kept going all the way down until we got to NC35, which was pretty close, but then I said, "Hm, I feel like I look a little orange still." So we took off one side (which had NC37 and was definitely dark) and voila! NC30 is a perfect match.

I'm so happy I finally figured it out so I can properly try other foundation formulas as well now.

I was probably closer to an NC35/37 when I went on vacation to Bermuda earlier this year and got so tan, but I feel like NC30 is a good match for late autumn-->mid spring, and maybe I can try something a little darker like NC35 for the summer.

It was a great experience overall, and I'm glad I finally got my answer! When I went to Sephora to get the free deluxe sample of Benefit's Hello Flawless earlier this year, they swatched two colours on me, Toasted Beige and Amber, and handed me the lighter one (duh). They didn't even bother to swatch any other colours to see if those were closer.

Comparing the two, I'm actually annoyed how much darker Toasted Beige is than NC30 (which I've heard is close to an NC37).

Anyone else have any foundation-matching stories to share? ^__^ Do MUA darken you or lighten you or are you an easy match?

Yay! I'm glad you finally got your match!

The few times I've been matched, the MUA has gone darker than necessary at first, and I've had to say no, that's too dark. The last time I was matched was at the Estee Lauder counter in Macy's and after a couple of tries, we did get the right shade, and I've used that to figure out my shade in other brands by comparing them to the sample I got.

In all honesty though, the absolute best color match I've ever found for my skin tone is in Revlon Colorstay (the Oily/Combination formula). It literally matches my skin perfectly!! I'm actually pretty much in love with Revlon Colorstay. Used in combination with a primer, it really does last all day and through eating and drinking and everything. (Proof = tonight I ate wings, wiped my face, even with some moist paper towels, and my makeup still looks great!)
