Since I went off birth control pills, my skin has started breaking out really frequently. I think it's mild acne. I get whiteheads and lots of unevenness/bumps on my forehead. So I've been really frustrated for the last month or so, trying to find something that works (in the past I never had this problem). My new routine is a little nuts, but it's working! So I thought I'd share. I have combo-dry skin, slight sensitivity. My t-zone does get a little oily, but my cheeks are painfully dry.

Cleanser:

AM - Biotherm Biosource Cleansing Milk for dry skin

PM - Biotherm Acnopur cleanser

Toner: Biotherm Biosource softening toner for dry skin

The rest of the routine (AM):

Biotherm Acnopur moisturizing treatment gel (I don't think it feels moisturizing!) w/2% salicylic acid, applied on chin, nose, and forehead.

Spritz with Dermalogica Soothing Protection Spray

Dermalogica Hydrating Boost, applied to cheeks

Eye cream

Biotherm Biosensitive cream for dry skin, small amount pressed into cheeks

Dove Fresh Radiance SPF 15 moisturizer mixed with 1 pump of Biotherm Source Therapie.

The rest of the routine (PM):

Biotherm Acnopur treatment gel as above every other evening.

Spritz w/Dermalogica toner

Dermalogica Hydrating Boost

eye cream

Biosensitive cream mixed w/Source Therapie.

...or...the evenings I don't use the BHA:

Paula's Choice 8% AHA treatment

Dermalogica Hydrating Boost,

eye cream

Biosensitive & Source Therapie.

Complex, takes 15 minutes or so, but it's really made a huge difference. It's even helping reduce the dark marks left behind by the blemishes. Oh, and I rarely pop them (although one I did b/c it was huge and painful and READY to go).

wow, you must be dedicated to do that every morning and evening. i thought my skin care regimen was extensive :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> apparently not! i was always told less is more and keep it simple etc but if this is working for you, great!

how much does all this cost i'm wondering?

keep it up

Keep it going!!!

Hi,

Glad to see you've found something that works. Dermalogica's products are very good.

Yeah, I used to sell Biotherm, so I got used to the idea of doing a lot of steps. I guess that's where it started! Plus, with how dry my cheeks get I need to make sure I moisturize the heck out of them. Otherwise, by the time Winter hits, my cheeks & the area around my nose are so dry *everything* stings. I'm more of a nut about skincare than makeup, anymore, so I think that's why I'm so dedicated.

Cost?

Biotherm cleansers are $16 each, as is the toner. The Acnopur treatment is $24.50, but I use it sparingly so I think it'll last a long time. The sensitive skin moisturizer is $32 and I get the big bottle of Source Therapie, which is $52 (my skin loves this stuff).

Paula's Choice AHA gel is $15.95 for 4 oz.

Dermalogica hydrating boost is $40 (on sale, no tax or shipping) and lasts me the better part of a year. I got the soothing protection spray as part of a trial kit when my skin had an allergic reaction and I needed something to calm it down, but regular size is $24 for 8.4 oz (from the same website...great discounts!).

The Dove mositurizer is, I think, only $9 or $10.

I've been using samples of eye cream because I get 8 million Biotherm samples from my old coworerks every time I go to the counter. I do spend more on skincare than almost anything else, although I do have my makeup weakness moments.

Keep in mind, a lot of this has been bought over time. The AHA will probably last me at least 6 months, so that's only $32/year (maybe less...still on my first bottle). During the winter I'll use a little less of the sensitive skin moisturizer b/c probably switch to my giant tub of Nivea cream for nighttime. I keep trying to save money on my skincare, but then my skin gets all gross.

Hopefully my hormones stabilize soon and I can stop using the Acnopur stuff as much. I like to keep the cleanser on hand to use if I've accidentally slept in my makeup, though, because it has triclosan (antibacterial) so I think it helps keep pimples from forming in the first place.

Thanks for sharing with us! I'm glad you found something that works for you!

i heard the dermalogica eye cream is really good. I haven't tried it and forgot it was mentioned. As i read your post, i was reminded to give it a try.
