I am in a wedding in May. I don't plan on going to the tanning bed, just dont really want to pay for it and I don't want skin cancer. I am wanting a self-tanner that will be easy to use and not rub off on my bridesmaid dress. Several people I know have recommended Fake Bake. I am looking into getting it, but wanted to know a couple questions first.

1. Does it have that awful smell that most self-tanners do?

2. How many applications would it take to look "tanner"? And how many would you recommend doing before a big event?

3. Should I apply self-tanner the day of the event?

4. Does it look orange and streaky after awhile?

Any help would be sooo appreciated!!

have you thought of getting the mystic tan? it's not that expensive and you get even coverage. I used to use the tanning beds for special occasions now I just get a spray tan. After you get it its smells a little... like you just came from the beach but its totally worth it.... After you shower no more tan smell..

I have thought about it.. It would be a lot easier than applying self-tanner ... I'll have to look into it and see if there is anywhere close to me that has Mystic Tan.

i use fake bake and its really good because it doesnt streak, stink or stain.

But since you are actually in the wedding i would recommend going to a beautician who uses fake bake and having them do it for you just to be extra safe and cos they wont miss bits you might ie your back.

but to answer your questions:

1. nope.

2. depends how much you put on and how tanned you want to look. i usually only do it once though.

3. NOOOOOOO!!!! for the love of god do NOT apply fake bake the day of anything lol. its coloured as you're putting it on so you can see if you have missed any bits then it gets darker and darker as the colour underneath comes through. by the time you're ready to wash the guide color off you look like a Neanderthal. honestly it gets ridiculously dark. do it the night before, leave it overnight then have a shower in the morning to wash off the excess and you'll have a nice colour.

remember to exfoliate really well before applying it though. and maybe do a little practice a week or two before the wedding.

oh and 4. the colour lasts really well and fades evenly. the beautician who did mine once advised me not to use soap though or it will fade really quickly so use shower gel instead.

not sure about fake bake but I thought I'd throw out there that I feel like a stink after mystic (even post shower)...well not really stink but have a distinct smell for a few days til it wears off. Maybe it's just me but the other day at work I'm sure this doc mystic'd because she vaguely had the smell coming off her...or maybe i'm jsut a freak

Nah.. you're not a freak.. I'm weird about those smells and sensitive to them, so I'm glad you said something about the smell of the Mystic Tan.

I've tried them all. Mystic tan I got orange and a little orange with xen tan, Daves tan, SUN labs, etc. My favorite is the xtreme fake bake. You can try a sample from fad2envy

It makes you dark almost right away. No streaking. No odor. No orange. It's a brown dark natural looking tan. Just wear gloves not to stain your hands.

does anyone know where i can get any fake bake or st. tropez products in toronto? sephora used to carry it, and now they discontiuned it!!

I like the spray tanning, but not so much the beds. They freak me out for some reason. Also, its been my experience that the spray tanning looks more natural. but thats just me
