Hello everyone,

I was wondering about some ways you all combat facial hair. I have extreme hormonal imbalance which makes hair grow on my neck, cheeks, upper lip and everywhere else. Removing this has been a hassle because I definitely do not want to shave it and I can't afford laser surgery. Any of you with similar issues have any suggestions?

Hello welcome to the forum! I myself dont have this problem but apparently home waxes have come along way. Also have you tried your doctor, if its to do with a hormone imbalance he will probably be able to send you on the correct course of action as he will probaby have seen it a million times before.

good luck!

Waxing would be the best for you, hun. I know this, because a girl I know in my class has a similar problem, and started to shave... It then was getting coarser... Which made it harder for us to wax it in the beginning of our training. So do not shave... See if you can talk to your doctor about this as well. A lot of people go through it, so you definitely aren't alone.

Good luck, hun.

I think that bleaching is pretty good. At least untill you can get enough money for the laser removal. Or you could also try going to an electrolysis. It's permanant, but hurts like hell. It's expensive, but nowhere near as expensive as the laser thing. A session is probably around $40, and like the laser thing, you have to keep coming back untill it stops growing.

I don't have facial hair like that but I've dealt with removing hair from other areas... Mainly a bunch of coarse, dark hair growing around my belly button, yuk! (I was trying to get a smooth, hairless tummy for my honeymoon a while back so I tried several things!)

Waxing is nice because it will leave you smooth and hair-free for 4-6 weeks, however you have to let the hair grow to 3/8" long (which takes about 3 weeks for the average person) before you can wax it. Hair too short won't stick to the wax very well, and longer hair pulls and hurts! I recommend Sally Hansen Sugar Wax -- you just use it at room temperature straight from the bottle, and I think it hurts less than the hot waxes you microwave!

Bleaching is another option if your hair is not super long. (Even if it's blonde, you may not want really long hair on your face!) It may take a few applications to get it light enough though, but after that maintenance isn't bad! I tried bleaching my gross hair and it did get very light after 2-3 applications, however when it got to be about an inch long that was just too gross for me! :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Another option is hair-removal creams like Nair. (I -- and a lot of other girls, from I read -- are allergic to Nair, so I used Veet brand.) Supposedly it's supposed to make your hair grow back finer after repeated use, however I didn't notice a difference after a month or two. And it didn't do any better job of removing hair than shaving, I had to do it every day to prevent stubble. But, it's an option if nothing else sounds good to you!

There are also at-home electrolysis kits, though I have no idea what they cost or where you can buy one. My mom has one at home, it sends an electric current through a pair of tweezers, and you hold the tweezers to the hair for 20 seconds then pull it out. You may also have to pull the hairs a few times before they quit coming back. I tried it on a few hairs, but I thought it hurt so I quit! (But regular tweezing hurt there too, so if you can tweeze your face then you can handle the electrolysis!) Now I kind of wish I would have kept it up though, so I wouldn't have to mess with waxing or bleaching now! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Hope that helps!

waxing would probably be the best, it last longer and the hair grows finer...

I don't recommend bleaching it, I knew a girl who used to bleach and when standing in the sun or at different lights it used to shine, it was a bit weird...

if it is a lot of hair like you say, i would wax rather than bleach. i know it is painful, but you got to do what you got to do! i wax at home, and agree with the others that at home wax kits have come a long way. you may also try a place like sally's beauty supply, because my mom is friends with an aesthetician who waxes at home and uses professional stuff from there. don't forget that the more you wax, the less hair grows back because you are getting hair at the root.

Thank you all for your suggestions, I have thought about waxing but I've read on other boards that on facial hair, it grows back thicker and courser. Also, waxing creates bumps on the face kind of like when you shave. I'll try it because its getting to be really annoying. Thanks again!
