There's a beauty school near me that gives facials for under $20. A friend of mine went & said it was great.......what do you all think.......is it a good thing to do?

Also, am I expected to tip them??? If so, how much?

Yeah, theres nothing wrong with them. All the girls will be trained in facials they all have to practice on eachother before they can work on clients.

They're supervised by their instructors, and you could probably ask for a student who's just about to graduate. I want to go to one, myself.

I'd do it! It's a school, so they'll be supervised and that's a great price!

I am so adament about this - Do Not let anyone take a tool to your face unless they are a doctor or nurse! I don't give a **** how many certificates they have.

I go to a beauty school for manicures, pedicure, and facials for the past 5 years. It's been a year since I had a facial, never had any problems in the past. They are all supervised. They didn't use a tool for extractions, can't remember what they did, only hurt slightly.

I survived the one my friend gave me at her school and she just got kicked out this week (and its her first semester)! She wasn't bad, just needs a little more practice...

When you go though, you'll get someone who is more experienced and knows what they are doing, it should be totally fine!

I would definitely go. Beauty schools are a great place to get low cost facials, manicures and hair cuts. A lot of the girls will be in a salon in a short time, so they have had lots of practice.

well much to my embarrassment they refused me because of my acne.......they told me their license won't allow for that & I need to go to a professional.

Hi,

As a former student, I loved giving facials to clients. Go for it. Regarding the tip, just check with the instructor to see if it's okay. I certainly did mind receiving them (tips).

Hi,

Just ask the instructor, if extractions are needed, who will do them and will they use their hands, Q-Tips or a comedone extractor. Personally, hands (latex gloved, index fingers wrapped in cotton or tissue) are the best.

I don't want anyone using a comedone extractor on me.

Were you overly broke out or just a little bit? You would think they would want the experience because they are training to be professionals.

Awww...sorry to hear that. Don't be embarrassed. Lots of people have acne. Maybe you're better off getting one from a professional.

They just said their license didn't allow it. I am certainly not gonna push if they aren't comfortable or skilled to do it.

Sorry to hear that, at least they told you and didn't just do it anyway, but beauty schools are a great place to go for inexpensive treatments any they use their hands to extract (with gloves and tissue).
