Winters season is one of the most dangerous for your face skin . Your face suffers from biting wind, snow, frost and heating at home or work. Your facial skin becomes dry, sensitive and chapped. So, how can you protect and keep your skin healthy?

The most important thing is moisturizing!

When you are having a bath don't forget to control waters temperature – it can't be too hot and also avoid wash your face with hot water as well. Better prepare tepid or even cold water especially in the morning – it will awake your skin.

Don't use water-based moisturizers, because it has a lot of water in it and that might cause a freezing on your face when you are outside. That's why you should use oil-based moisturizer.

You should use scent free soaps and washes also avoid colored or antibacterial facial skin produce. All chemicals which add scents and color are the reason why our skin becomes dry.

For better results apply your moisturizing cream immediately after you have a wash and while skin is still damp. Use moisturizing face cream which includes lecithin and vitamins. Daily use nutritional face cream enriched vitamins, fruity acid.

But undoubtedly best way to hydrate your skin is drink plenty of water.

Don't forget to protect your skin when you are out!

Many people are thinking sun is dangerous only in summer , but it's not true! The snow reflects the sunlight so you must wear sunscreen. Remember, that sun ages your skin. Use moisturizer with SPF 15 or even SPF 30. Your makeup must be with sun protection too .

Also don't forget protect your lips – it's one of the most sensitive areas on your face during wintertime. If you want to have healthy not chapped lips, don't lick and bite them!

To protect chapped lips in winter season, always wear lip balm or lipstick with sunscreen. Choose lip balm which includes propolis.

Pamper your facial skin whit mask.

Once a week use moisturizing or nutritional masks. You can buy them in beauty shop, pharmacy or also you can make it at home from natural products .

i think most of these tips are good. the one thing that i would say is a definate no no that they say you should do is to wear sunscreen and wear a makeup with sunscreen in it. they will interact and nullify the protection. many people think they are giving themselves extra protection by doing this, but they are really doing the opposite. you should either wear protection in sunscreen or in makeup, but not both.

when avobenzone is mixed with other sunscreens (titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, etc.), it degrades the other suncreens. avobenzone is the most wearable and popular sunscreen in the u.s. currently. most makeups contain zinc or titanium dioxide as a protectant. so when you use your makeup wih suncreen in addition to avobenzone, you break down the effectiveness of both sunscreens. i have a book that talks about this extensively. there are also medical journals you can find online that discuss this. so before you think about combining sunscreens, you have to really check the ingredients of what you are putting on your face. if you are using an aveeno moisturizer with sunscreen followed by mineral makeup for example, you are not getting twice the protection, you are actually weakening the protection. the point the article makes sort of implies that you are multiplying your protection by wearing multiple sunscreens, when oftentime, the opposite is true. even if the sunscreens are compatible, wearing an spf 30 and an spf 15 at the same time definately does not increase spf or any protection. you are better off using one or the other - but most likely just using a sunscreen or sunscreen moisturizer and a foundation or powder without sunscreen.

The only way I really change my skincare regimen in the winter is to apply a thicker moisturizer and deep condition my hair more frequently. I'm such a loser, I never leave the house anyway, so I don't really have to worry about the cold that much.

I find that changing your summer moisturizer to a winter moisturizer for the changing season is one of the main neccessities once november rolls around. Just remember go one step up don't get a skin cream thats too rich and thick because you might end up clogging your pores. A few to try :

Normal Skin: Vichy Thermal Fix 1 or 2, Biotherm aquasource Non Stop Moisturizer, Cliniderm Lotion

dry skin : Vichy Nutrilogie 1 or 2, Avene Hydrance Optimale (RICHE), Cliniderm Cream

Dry Flaky skin: Vichy Nutrilogie Balm, Biotherm Nutrisource, La Roche Posay Nutritic 5%

Combination with dry spots and slightly shiny spots: La Roche Posay Toleriane Soothing Protective Skincare, Vichy Oligo 25 Normal Combination skin, Biotherm Hydra Detox Fluid

Oily with shine: Vichy Thermal Fix Mat, Lancome Pure focus Mattifying Moisturizer, Biotherm Biopur Mattifying Fluid.

Moisturizers With a Very light Waterlike texture: Biotherm Aquasource Fluide, La Roche Posay Toleriane Fluid, Vichy Thermal Fix Serum.

Thanks for the article. I sort of feel like I now need to "winterize" my skin like I do my car :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Until now I wouldn't change my skin care products/routine in the winter. If my skin got really dry, I'd pat on some creme in the dry patches but that'a about it. I'll have to make more of an effort from now on.

thanks jessica 9, i didn't know that about mixing sunscreens. What about mineral makeup that has a "natural, built in sunscreen", does it interact with the regular sunscreen you use?

Your all r ight about moisturising during winter... but I hate using a moisturiser which makes u face look shiny....

I tried using a gel based moisturiser... and its not doing the trick...

what shud i do?

i certainly take care of putting a generous amount of moisturizers. one for dried skins on my cheeks and one matifying for the rest of my face. i also put Anthelios, it seems to help reduce a lot the redness on my cheeks, i'm so happy^^.

hi kangakoy...from what i know about mineral makeup (and i just know this from using bare essentials, and i know there are many other brands), the natural built in sunscreen in titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide, which are both minerals, so when they say the minerals actually protect your face, they are right. those two types of sunscreens are supposed to be the most effective - chemical sunscreens were invented mostly to avoid the white casts associated with the those two sunscreens. i guess the nice thing about mineral makeup is that you get the protection in the makeup without the white cast or greasiness. so while you may not be getting super heavy duty protection, using the mineral makeup alone apparently provides sufficient protection. i've heard of people going out in the summer with just bare minerals and not getting any tan but getting a tan with regular sunscreens. so...zinc and titanium dioxide are minerals which are sunscreens, and if you like mineral makeup, skip the regular sunscreen cos it will interact and just use mineral makeup.
