Exfoliating before sunless tanner application

What is the best thing to exfoliate with before application of tanner. Also what is the best way to exfoliate in between applications. It seem like you would be rubbing off your tan if you did that. Just showering takes alot of my tan color away. I just don't know how to maintain without applying after every shower, and that can get expensive and tiring.

I always just used either a shower gel and a puff, or a daily shower scrub w/ the puff. mark has a specific pre-tanning scrub for their Island Vacation line.
