I was thinking about getting microdermabrasion, and I researched it and found the best method and all that. But I called a place and the lady said it doesn't work on red acne scars. [which is mostly what I want it for] Then I went to another place and she said it does work on red scarring. But I asked her which method they use and she said "I forgot but it doesn't really matter." She also talked me into getting a deep cleansing facial and a glyolic peeling two days before the microdermabrasion to help with the acne. Optaderm Spa is the place. I believe it's a privately owned business.

I have been breaking out like crazy. And no matter what I always get a red scar after the pimple goes away. Even after the tinest pimple! So I have a whole bunch of red scars on my face, some 6 months old. I also have a bunch of whiteheads [i think that's what they are?] on my chin that I had for maybe 5 years. Blackheads on my nose, and probably 6ish new zits.

I'm really worried cause first of all my parents don't want me doing it, they said it will damage my skin. But then again they won't even take me to a derm. :vogel: Also because this place isn't well known and she "forgot" what method they use. I don't want to pay all that money and have them wreck my skin. Do you think it should be ok and help with all my skin problems?

Honestly, NO. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> I'd rather make sure the place is reliable, and they know what they're doing. Even though the lady you were talking to might have been just a secretary, she still needs to be well-informed about their products and services. Her lack of knowledge can reflect the care and effort that the clinic/spa puts into their services.

I suggest physically going and getting a consultation, and checking out if the place looks safe and reliable. Good luck!

I suggest you do some research on the company, maybe with Better Business Bureau, go in for a consultation and check the place out.

Yeah, all those things are an awful lot of money to be spending and you are right, it could wreck your skin instead of save it. Honestly I would really really really talk to your parents about going to a dermatologist... if you are going to get these potentially dangerous services then they are better off just taking you to a reputable doctor to help take care of your skin.

I think if you get the microdermabrasion over your acne it could cause worse scarring anyway... and if the spa workers do not even know what the names of the processes they are doing... yeah that doesn't sound too trustworthy.

i agree too.may i suggest you go first to a derm? ask him about what products he could give you to help reduce the acne and the scars. microdermabrasion IS dangerous if not done correctly. your derm can also give you the name and address of a serious place where you know you won't loose your money.
