I am kinda new to caring for my skin...so i am still learning.

I am going to start using a facial peel once a week (like Juicy Beauty green apple peel). I thought that was supposed to provide enough exfoliating...but then whats a scrub? if i do the weekly peel, do i still need a scrub?

also, if i want to incorporate a weekly mask into my regimen, is it a good idea to do it on the same night as i do the peel? ive heard that a mask after a peel is a good idea but i just wanna make sure!

thanks

Also...sorry i am pretty clueless about skincare. I've heard using a night product with retinol or retin A is a good anti-aging tool..but at what age should that be started? I'm 23...is it a bad idea to start using a retinol night cream?

Don't worry Hun. I'm 44 and still learning myself lol.

I'm not sure what a peel is - is this like a mask that peels off your face?

I use a gentle cleanser daily. A few times a week I mix baking soda with the cleanser and give my face a good scrub. For me, this is all the exfoliation I need. I don't use any other scrub, mask or peel.

Retin A helps exfoliate your skin. If your skin would normally shed every 28 days (example), Retin A will increase the shedding cycle. This helps remove dead cells and exposes new, healthy skin.

As well, Retin A helps rejuvinate collagen. This is not an issue for younger girls. But once you are in your 30s, the collagen will decrease.

There are several good reasons to start using retin A at your age. You skin will be clearer, your skin will exfoliate sooner exposing glowing skin, and you can help prevent some of the collagen loss that will inevitably occur.

Note, If you do want to try Retin A, you need to be very gentle with your skin - especially until you get use to it - it can be quite irritating and cause a few break outs.

Therefore, only mildly exfoliate - no masks, peels or scrubs - until you feel that you have surpassed any irritation - could take 3-4 months.

Do you mean the cleaser that contains small hard particles that rubs off the dead skin? I do have one but I rarely use it, in fact I think you cannot rub to hard on your face - but if you don't put some strength in how can you get rid of the old cells?

To exfoliate I use AHA/BHA lotion and deep cleansing active mud by Borghese.

If you really wants a scrub, I recommanded Nu Skin's Extra Gentle one, that one you can use daily.

Retin-A can be used as an acne treatment.

Well, don't be to harsh on your skin. I personally prefer to use one way for exfoliation.

About 8 months ago I used peel as exfoliation (Nature Bisse Glycolic acid) and now for about 4 months since last year October, I'm back on using scrub (sugar and cleanser) because I thought I have to give my skin some rest from chemical peel.

I'm very happy with my current skin care regimen even if it's only using sugar and cleanser and moisturizer. Simple but works wonder.

i agree with the others, you don't want to be too harsh by using two types of exfoliation, so one should be enough. i also heard it's good to do a mask after an exfoliation because the pores have been cleaned and opened so it will make the mask more effective. because it's more convenient that way i try to do everything the same day.

I agree and use a scrub 2 times a week. I'm 42 and my skin has never been smoother or in better shape.........except for those age related lines that there is not much I can do about.

hello,

facial peel and scrub have the same work, but facial peel is more softer than scrub.

you don't need to use a night cream because you're 23 years old (retinol is for 35 and over).

using a mask after peeling is necessar to give hydration, nourrish your skin .

I agree with not using too many products on your face. I wouldn't use a peel then a mask on the same day. I did that once and it made my skin super red and dry. Not a good idea. Try using just one product for exfoliating. A peel and a scrub do the same thing, and depending on what type of mask that may also be exfoliating as well. Less is more!
