I was just surfing thru Lotioncrafters and found this really cool product called Lipidthix. It says it can make butters by thickening oils like avocado oil. It's relatively inexpensive and worth getting to experiment with

This is what it says:

LipidThix

LipidThixâ„¢ is simply vegetable oil that has been hydrogenated to a powdered form. Soluble in oils, it is ideal for thickening oil soluble products and can be used in balms, butters, salves and scrubs. Creation of a butter such as avocado butter is as simple as melting 20% LipidThix with 80% avocado oil, mixing well and allowing it to cool. Firmness can be adjusted by varying the percentage of LipidThix added to the oil.

Anyone try this yet?

I bought some yesterday!  I'll let you know how well it works when it arrives.  I'm going to make some almond butter!!!

Cool ! I only use polawax for my homemade creams.
This isn't to emulsify but to thick oils with no water involved at all.  I don't really like using polawax because you have to cook melt and then mix.  I like gelmaker and emulthix.  Both don't involve any cooking at all.  I'm lazy and I really don't want the added mess.  I bought some to use for my lactic acid cream because it was separating for some reason.  I didn't like the texture either and it didn't work

I ended up adding the lactic acid to water and gelmaker together in the water phase and then adding the oils.  This worked better than making the cream then adding the LA which caused it to thin out to the consistency of water.

I want to make almond butter for the winter.  I have a whole ton of shea butter but I want something less heavy.
