I'm over 45 and have hair at about bra length. I really like my long hair. However, my stylist and others keep telling me that long hair does nothing for me and that I really should get it cut short.

Should I cut it because that's what nearly everyone else thinks would look best or should I keep my hair the way it is, because that's just how I really like it?

Why dont you cut it to your shoulders in a flattering layered style? That way you have some length and lots of ways to put it up and change it!

Well,

to the hair dresser. When they see all that beautiful hair, sometimes what they really see is an "overgrown weed needing to be pruned".

You already told him/her you like your hair. So what's the deal? Of course they are going to tell you to cut your hair, otherwise they'd have no business.

I get ridiculous suggestions all the time to cut my hair. It ain't happening. It is not the stylist's hair to whack off, it's mine. *I can cut layers into it to give it more volume...* Pft! Have you ever heard of something so stupid? Cut off your hair to give you more of it?!?!

Sometimes when they try to bully me into donating my hair, I usually say "I'm still using it, they can have it when I'm dead." If your first instinct is not to cut your hair... then don't. Keep it, be happy.

i think u should do whatever you really want to do because its your hair and its your choice

If you like it, then keep it. If you are wanting a change, then cut it. Best of luck to you either way!

If you like your hair long then don't cut it. I'm 42 and my hair is right at the top of my butt. I'm not ever going short. Do what you are happy with. They don't have to look at you in the mirror everyday.

Thanks for all your opinions. To the one who said that she is hounded to cut it off to donate it, I heard a great comeback for that one: Why don't you grow your hair and donate it? Isn't it selfish for you to keep cutting it when you could grow it long for someone else?!

I'm keeping my hair. I'll get it trimmed of course, but thanks very much for the confidence to do what I want, not feel pressured to do what others want with my hair.
