I am half depressed because I am ceaselessly losing my hair! What should I do?

I have got myself tested for everything. But every time I brush my hair, strands and strands of hair fall off. It is very disturbing to see. Am I close to become bald? I have read some articles about it and I don’t know what to do. Do I have go for a surgical treatment?

If that is the case, I think you should first meet with specialist who will tell you if you should definitely go for surgical hair treatment. So first confirm that you are balding with an expert

I would recommend advising with the professional / doctor to rule out clinical possibilities for hair loss. See if you had changes in diet and lifestyle ( sleeps patterns, physical activity, stress due to problems, etc) . For example serious lack if sleep, prolonged physical activity, dieting / avoiding certain foods can contribute to hair loss. You may not be receiving enough vitamins. Consult with endocrinologist and take tests to check your hormonal levels. I recently asked my endocrinologist about my thinning hair and she said I may be lacking calcium. All this time I thought that biotin was the one responsible for hair health. Calcium supplements may not be the best source to fill the deficiency as only a small percentage is absorbed by the body. The most calcium is in green vegetables like broccoli, even milk doesn't have as much and has to be artificially fortified.

If you are a black woman who relaxes their hair, then no worries.  This seems to be very very common issue, we lose a lot of our hair in the front of our heads.  For me it started in my mid twenties til my very very early 30's I am 34 now.

If you color your hair at home STOP!  I asked my aunt and a hairdresser why was i losing my hair and they told me to stop coloring my hair at home.  I was using Garnier and I thought I wasn't doing that much damage to my hair but boy was I wrong.    When I stopped coloring my hair at home I did notice less hair loss.  But I still relax and I will never stop doing that.

I do take vitamins as well, I was taking Prenatal but I have moved on to Flintstones Complete which  does contain Biotin.

If the problem is worse I would consult a physician.

You haven't had a baby in the last year, have you? You lose hair like mad following childbirth. Otherwise, a thyroid issue could be the culprit.

Assess your diet and go to your doctor and a specialist. You might be missing some vital vitamins or it could be caused by stress - best to seek professional help though :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> Good luck!

You mentioned that you have been "tested for everything" but what sort of doctor? I'm not offering medical advice, but there are many health care issues which can cause hair loss (for example, thyroid issues, low vitamin levels, etc). Is your diet lacking in any areas? Also, what I think is most important, how much hair are you loosing and do you see any bald spots? I only ask because I am dealign with hair loss (due to a health issue) and when I brought it up to my specialist, he was kind but did point out that I have long dark hair so even a few strands look like much more than short strands. If you want to get really intense about it, a friend of mine actually collected all of the hair she lost each day (or as much as she could) and put them in envelopes. Then, she counted the hairs at the end of one week.

Since my hair loss is due to a health issue, sometimes it's worse than others. When I'm going through a time when it's worse, I do not dye my hair (I rarely highlight anyway, and when I dye I tend to just do a glaze which is less harmful than lightening), minimize heat styling (when my hair is fine, I usually only heat style 1-2 times a week at most), and generally just baby my hair. Another friend of mine was noticing hair loss around her face, and her stylist said it may be due to how she wears her hair - said friend is a fan of tight pony tails, and that the stylist believed was causing the thinning around her face. My friend started putting her ponytail in different places on her head, as well as not going for the tight ponies and trying out other options. Within 6 months, no more issues.

I've tried several products for hair loss, and most I found no noticeable difference or the difference was so small that it wasn't worth the price (very few of the products are cheap!). Aveda's Invati shampoo and conditioner offered little to no difference, plus I just didn't like them (I went through the bottles, re-purchased adn then was done). Plus the shampoo is so thin that I felt like I wasted product, and the conditioner I felt weighed down my hair. I even tried it with the scalp spray, and that offered a bit of a difference. I kept up with the spray after I went back to my old shampoo and conditioner. The difference wasn't worth the price for me, so I tried Alterna's and liked it much better. I did notice a small difference, and while my mom couldn't tell what the difference was, she did think that my hair is looking better. When I was getting low, I tried L'oreal's version and while the price is much more friendly to my wallet, I didn't like it as much. I wanted to like it as much! The scent is a little more masculine, but I found it didn't last all day and it did tingle a little on my scalp (Alterna's doesn't for me) - not bad, but worth pointing out. I did think L'oreal's worked better than Aveda's but I would rather shell out for Alterna's.

Hey,

Concentrate on your diet.

Eat healthy means full of protein, vitamin, nutrients.

Drink plenty of water.

Massage your hair with oil.

Cover your hair whenever you can go outside.

Try to use natural ,branded product.

Wash your hair alternately.

I've been making my own vegetable and fruit juices for breakfast and lunch and it's had great effects on my hair and skin. Tamsin

I think you should get some blod test that confirms that you are 100% healtly. If you are, then try to buy in pharmacy some diet suplements for hair. Farther you should not coloured your hair for some time and try to not wash them on too hot water and not dry with dryer with hot air because all that thinks makes them weak. You must be patient 'couse it takes a long time to get them better.
