I've always heard when you wash your face you're supposed to use cool water, not warm. I've also heard the cool water helps "seal" the pores so they're not as obvious... What do you think? Myth or fact? How do you wash your face?

Also, I keep being told you're supposed to pat your face dry, not actually dry it the way you would your arms or stomach... Again, myth or fact? Same thing too, how do you dry your face?

I don't know about the warm vs. cool water thing. I personally use lukewarm water to wash my face.

I definitely do pat it dry, though. I just feel that it's better not to get too aggressive with my facial skin. To me, it's the same kind of principle as "tapping" on eye cream rather than rubbing, pulling or tugging. I just have a tendency to try to be a little more gentle here than with the rest of my body.

I also heard those two things, but then got confused when I heard you can't 'open' and 'close' pores...anyhoo I wash my face with lukewarm water and then rinse with cool/cold water because it feels refreshing. I actually pat my face dry with a tissue instead of rubbing it, but then I pat my body dry too.

:S my mom told me that warm water gives u wrinkles (i dont know, maybe it's just a myth..) but i use warm water then cold to rinse, and pat dry a bit then air dry :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> cuz im just too lazy to keep patting in the morning lol

oh and i also splash warm water 10 times and rinse w/ cold 10 times :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> i got that off a site, it removes the cleanser easily so i keep doing it .-.

I use lukewarm water cuz it helps break up the oil better or my face just feels cleaner with warm water vs. cool water (does that make sense)? If my face was dry, I'd probably use cooler water. As for pores open/closing....not sure. I heard the same thing about cool closing them....but who knows. I feel warm water cleansing my skin type better.

I pat dry, as I don't want to tug my skin anymore....heck my 3 year old used to put her hands on my face and pull down and I'd say, hon if anything....pull UP on my face...he he he.

Luke-warm water here. Sometimes cool to close my pores or need to refresh my skin.

I always pat dry my skin after cleanser, rubbing would be harsh for skin.

I prefer warm water while washing my face and then I pat dry. Sometimes I will take a hot rag and lay it across my face and then immediately spray my toner and put my moisturizer on. It helps it to penetrate better.

i use warm water to wash my face, but i have heard that cold water closes your pores..also i pat my face dry, as i do with my body after showering. patting is a lot better so it doesn't irritate your skin IMO.

i use warm water on my face and then splash cool water to get the circulation going. that's what i heard to do.

i always pat my face dry!

I read a thing about skin care myths, and it said your pores don't open or close. Rubbing roughly or using hot water can stimulate oil secretion and also cause irritation. Products that claim to close pores, especially if they contain alcohol, only irritate the skin or swell it a bit and that makes the pores temporarily appear smaller.

I like to use a soft microfiber towel to pat dry, and if there any flaky areas, I use it to gently exfoliate them. I have used a gentle buff puff for over 25 years, and I think it has helped to lightly exfoliate every day.

I'm pretty sure this is accurate. I splash lukewarm water on my face, massage the cleanser into my skin, wash w/warm water , then i always rinse w/cold water (not icy cold .. just cold) to close the pores. The cold water also wakes me up in the morning.

(my mom ... going on 58) has great skin and she agrees about the cold water ... when i'm 58 and still look that young ... i'd be sooo happi, i don't realli think she has wrinkles @ all. My friends always guess she's in her late 30s .. hee hee , I think it's because she drinks a lot of water, loves veggies, and she wears Mu once a week (sundays) - no foundation though, just a lil lipstick and liner, no mascara, or blush .. she's so simple, i love her. .....

okie .. sorrie ... kinda off topic ... LoL

and .. umm .. I also pat my face dry, keeps the moisture in

i always pat my face dry!

Ditto!

In the shower I wash it with what I shower in - when I am just washing my face it tends to be a bit cooler...

I got word of the "pat dry" myth and ever since, I have seen an impressive differance in my face, as odd as that my seem to you haha!

They say it is better to wash your face in warm water and rinse with cool to close the pores.Hot water can break down collagen (so i've read) and patting your face is more gentle and therefore less damaging to your skin.Being too rough or not gentle enough can show in lines and wrinkles years later.

Since I grew up with major acne-prone skin, I made it a habit of never drying my face with a towel. I would let my skin air dry, which in fact ends up drying pretty quickly anyway then I would go straight to my toner and moisturizer.

You should first wash your face with tepid to hot water to let your pores open, then apply the mask or cleanser generously to allow it to enter and clean out your pores, and rinse with tepid-cold water.

Remember how every hair stylist says that color-treated hair must be rinsed with cold water to seal the color? Yeah I guess it's the same rule when it comes to skin also.

I've heard that you should always wash with water on the '' cooler side ''. I've heard really bad things about warm water.. but, I must admit.. I only wash my face with warm water. I've tried with cool water and I'm just so used to warm so, I always end up reverting back.
