Hello all. I have been struggling with acne for 16 years. I never had it as a teenager. It started as an adult. I have tried so many different things. I have read all about it and have seen dermatologists. I have prescription and over the counter and nothing seems to work on a regular basis. I am trying to maintain a very gentle regimen. My skin is also sensitive. My breakout is in the chin area.

Here is my skin care regimen for AM and PM. Could you please comment on the products. Anything I should change?

AM

Arbonne Gelee cleanser

Clinique 7 day scrub (2-3 times a week)

Arbonne toner

Arbonne day/night serum

Arbonne eye cream

Clinique Super city block SPF 40

makeup: Stila tinted or Prescriptives tinted or just Lorac concealer w/Lorac pressed powder (applied as a loose powder)

PM

Clinique comfort cream (helps remove makeup)

Arbonne toner

Arbonne day/night serum

Arbonne eye cream

Arbonne day moisturizer (it is lighter for my skin)

BP, Differin or Clinique acne solutions depending upon my mood...only 1 though as I don't want to dry my skin out

Arbonne deep pore mask 1-2 times per week

Please let me know what you think. I also just ordered the Serious SKin Care combo/oily kit. It consists of a serum, unplugged, and moisturizer. I haven't started that yet.

THanks.

i think you are using TOO MANY products, especially if you have sensitive skin. Maybe knock it back a bit- a good cleanser that gets your skin clean without having to use a toner afterwards, a treatment product for the acne, a light moisturizer with spf for the day- skip the eye cream, you can use whatever face moisturizer your're using around your eyes as well, as long as it's gentle and not really greasy. At night, cleanse, treatment product. Moisturize really dry areas. I don't have alot of problems with my skin, but have always been into taking care of it and I found that using too many things did nothing but take up my time and cost me alot of money, and the main result was either nothing or clogged pores. Good diet, plenty of water and exercise and a simple routine do wonders. And research the products you use, read ingredients and find an un-biased source of info to tell you what those ingredients do or if they do anything at all. Don't believe everything the skin care companies say.

Thanks for the responses. I do drink about 64 oz of water most days. I exercise 3-4 days per week. I was thinking perhaps I am using too much but didn't know where to start. Any suggestions for a gentle cleanser? I have tried Cetaphil. Yes, it's gentle but it doesn't remove makeup.

Also, any recs for a good moisturizer. I don't mind spending money on a great one...I am just tired of acne.

Do you know any sites that have un-biased recs for these things? It seems when I check the reviews here, one person says the product is great, gentle. THe next says it burned their skin.

PS-what ingredients should I look out for in products? Is there a good place that gives me that information?

THanks so much

i just got a cleanser called Thoroughly Clean Face Wash by Desert Essence- its one of the all natural products from health food stores or Whole Foods market, about 8$- very gentle, doesn't strip my skin and it gets all the eye make up off, I didn't even have to use eyemakeup remover or oil beforehand.

Cetaphil is nice, but it does not remove all your makeup- its better to use cetaphil when you aren't wearing makeup. Anyway, I love the Desert Essence cleanser and am looking forward to trying their other products, I want to get away from using too many chemicals on my skin. As far as moisturizers go, I'm using Dove night cream right now which is alot better than the last expensive moisturizer I bought (Lancome) and I also use Alpha Hydrox, a very cheap and VERY great working AHA treatment. With your acne, you may need a moisturizer w/ salycic acid or some other treatment in it, but one that also doesn't hurt your sensitive skin....I believe Aveeno makes one like that, not expensive, and also has an SPF. I have used the other Aveeno moisturizers and they are nice, no clogged pores or other problems. Maybe someone else has some other suggestions.

But remember- high price does not always mean better, there are some awesome products out there that don't cost a fortune- the proof is in the ingredients, so educate yourself on what you are buying! Good luck

Here are some good sites- MUA (a billion reviews)

and thecosmeticscop.com

The cosmetics cop is Paula Beogon who wrote "Don't go to the cosmetics counter without me" and though I don't agree with everything she says, she is well versed and knowlegable about ingredients and the cosmetics/skin care industry and you will learn alot about how to be a smart consumer- most library's and book stores carry her books.

I think you're using too many products specially if you have acne prone and sensitive skin. But, if your current skincare regimen works for your skin, then I don't think you should change any.

But if it's not making any progress you could lower it down and keep it simple. Here's some advices I could give:

[*][*]Stop using the Facial scrub, it's a little bit harsh for acne prone/sensitive skin, so you might want to try using other AHAs products like Glycolic toner/cleanser. Glycolic acid is good for mild peeling and remove blackheads. I use glycolic acid lotion/toner and it works great for blackhead. I also find it great to prevent clogged pores from becoming acne. So you might want to try it incase you haven't tried yet.

[*]Also, I don't think it's necessary to use the Day/night serum on day time because skincare product usually works more effective when you use it at night because your body and skin usually well rested and restore your body system during nighttime. Just focus on protecting your skin on day time and do the treatment on a nighttime.

[*]You might also want to find a gel/lotion moisturizer with sunscreen properties so you won't need to use separate products for sunscreen and moisturizer for day time. Find a gel/lotion moisturizer with at least SPF 15-30. Although I won't recommend you to use higher SPF because higher SPF contains more concentrations or chemicals and could lead to allergic reactions specially for acne and sensitive skin. When you're not doing a lot of outdoor activity on daily basis, a moisturizer with at least SPF 15-20 is enough but still you need to protect your skin by using a cap/hat if need to stay outside in direct sunlight.

[*]I don't think you need moisturizer if you using night serum on nighttime. You can moisturize your skin by drinking enough water everyday, night and day. But, if you think you need a moisturizer since you also use other products that might dry out your skin then you can just apply a little bit of the moisturizer or you can just apply to the dry prone area.

Don't forget to find something that oil-free, alcohol free, fragrance-free, allergic and non comedogenic tested product since you have sensitive and acne skin.

For more info of ingredients you need to avoid for acne and sensitive skin type, check this website if you don't know yet.

sounds like you're getting lots of great info, isn't this site great!! The only thing I would add... it's not good to mix manufacturers... stick with the same brand of whatever you settle on. They are made to work together... but if you are using somethings that are Arbonne, and some Clinique, and this and that, you are more likely to have problems (especially since you have sensitive skin).

And of course, I am partial to Mary Kay Skin care, hypoallergenic, noncomedagenic, very gentle and comes in a combination/oily formula.

Good Luck!!

OK...stop! Arbonne products are made to pull impurities out. Impurities such as minerial oil, chemicals, etc... (Every now and then a person will not be able to mix the products due to break outs) Stop using the Clinique and the break out should clear up in a few weeks, sooner if you use a masque to help pull out the impurities faster. What you are doing is creating a cycle...your skin is pulling out by breaking out which happens sometimes.

If they breakout continues it maybe hands on chin, dirty phones touching (clean them once a week with a good cleaner), or hormones.

If hormones, find out from your consultant about prolief.

Sorry Ann... didn't mean to offend you. I wasn't telling her to stop using Arbonne specifically... just to stick with the same brand no matter what she settles on. Typically, it is not a good idea to mix brands... and if someone has very sensitive skin, they should stick with one brand. I guess I thought we were all able to give our own little bits of advice.

I've noticed that the less i put all these products on my skin the better it is. I have sensitive skin also and i used to use so many products ..my derm told me just to stop using everytihng and just use cleaner and moisturizer and that is it. I now notice a difference.

lol, no...the ok...stop was for her, to stop using the combo, lol! Not at all to your post. I never get offended about stuff like that lol!

You will find I am open to discuss without any problems, I am so sorry you took that directed at you. I promise, until you posted this time I only read her post when I posted my reply.

I do want to point out that we do RIPT test on human panels and Arbonne will not take a product to market unless it comes back a 0 where most others will a 4. The products really work and usually if you talk to someone they can help you figure out what is going on if it does not. Most of our newest lines are patent pending which means they have to prove they work.

All of our formulas are:

* botanically based

* ph correct

* hypoallergenic

* dermatologist tested

* never tested on animals

* formulated without animal products, byproducts, mineral oil, dyes, or chemical fragrances.

We have a professional line of products that are represented by plastic surgeons, dermatologists, chiropractors, licensed aestheticians, massage therapists, and professional makeup artists. Arbonne is the only skin care endorsed by the President of the American Modeling Association. All of Arbonne's products combine THE BEST of science and nature, are on the cutting edge of the latest technology, and have been proven pure, safe and beneficial.

good... I'm glad ur not mad at me. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> LOL Mary Kay Timewise products have patents too, that adds so much to the product line.... cuz like u said, they had to prove they do what they say.

Oh I never get mad, lol! I am glad you responded, I was worried there for a moment.

Amen! It makes a huge differance...I am a former MK user. I still use some items I do not sell like the nail polish and fumes...I learned how to apply makeup by my mom then had a class with a MK rep.

I respectfully disagree that you can't mix products - obviously you should stick to products that have compatible ingredients but the idea that you should stick to one line is just a marketing gimmick disguised as valid advice, and used by companies to get you to buy all of that particular companie's products. They all say it. But if you do your homework, know the ingredients, and choose your products wisely, you can have an effective skin care system with mixed products. If you WANT to stick to one line, that's cool, but you don't have to. I've done it both ways, on and off, for years, and saw no difference in my sometimes sensitive skin's reaction.

Besides, it's boring to use the same things all the time, and not every product in every line that is supposed to work for my skin does the job.

Hi, here is my 2 cents of advice, for what it is worth. hope it helps.

No scrubs for acne prone skin. Do not use the serum. Why are you not using the day creme for day use (it has spf in it!)? Also why are you not using a Cleanser at night? Also the night creme is for correction.It is very important that you use it at nighttime. You might think it is too heavy for your skin type. But give it a month and see. Remember cleanse, tone and moisturize.

I use Serious Skin care glycolic acid cleanser. I sware by it I also use their Vitamin C moisurizer and I have avery acne prone skin. I love serious skin care and can't imagine using anything else on my face. I hope you like it and its works for you too:satisfied:

I think the ladies are right that you are using WAY too much products. I went through an obsessive compulsive phase with my cleansing of the face and bought tons of Dermalogica and my routine made my face break out in large hard pustules(sp) it was awful:scream3: Once I layed off the ridiculous routine my face calmed down and now I only really get pimples while I'm on my period and even then its not that bad. Good luck!

Sorry (respectfully) not a marketing gimick...This person is not my customer but I do know my products better and how they work. Everyone skin is unique and some can use what ever and never break out, some people cannot.

This is information shared by expierence. My clients are of top importance to me.

I have woman who uses Proactive and it works for her, she came to me and ask about our extra strength masque and I her she was welcomed to try it but if it breaks her out then it is because they are made to pull out impurities which Arbonne defines as minerial oil and petro chemicals, harsh chemicals..etc...found in 98% of the skin care on the market. She does use our lift though with out a problem because it is not pulling. I left it up to her to try the mask and she choose not too. I have never steared her to by from me. I complimented her when I met her and she told me what she used I asked how she liked it, she told me and I told her to stick with it, it worked for her.

I also have had people here ask if they could use one part and I have said yes to certain ones. It is important to listen to what the person is saying...ask yourself does this person sound like someone who loves the product, ask questions...do they know the product, and are they giving me options and knowledge or commericals. Please do not stereo type...

I also reccomend anyone using the Arbonne re9 wash that break out to be sure to use the Arbonne foundation. The two were made to work together.

I like trying other products too, but skin care can be the same and fun if it is giving you the results you want. We do have other lines that will not have that reaction but the deal is, this line is for anti-aging, lifting, and self adjusting...mixing it is not wise unless you are targeting something like a lift and use the lift only or the lift and the eye cream.

I am sorry for taking over the soap box but people in my line of work are not always out for cash or need it, I got here by loving what I tried, wanting to share it, wanting to be educated on what works and love to help others. I use other products too.

(No offensive taken..Please do not take this as being mad..I am not.. but I like to share and educate because to many over look being helped because of a few bad apples.)

Also that was a great point about pointing out no wash in the evening. I am unsure if she forgot it or if she doesn't but if your not washing at night that makeup more than likely is sitting.
