i plan on wearing a high spf sunscreen, but i don't know if that will be enough. in the summer, i am always sunbathing, swimming, at the lake or pool, always outdoors. i don't want to be stuffed up in house all summer, but i definitely don't want the peels to have a bad effect on my skin b/c of the sun! i'm stuck..please HELP! will the spf be enough if i apply it everyday, often? i will probably get a straw hat or a cap to wear too for more protection. any advice, insight? thanks my lovely mut friends!

i would say to use the highest spf as possible and shield your

face really well should do the trick. i would ask my dermatologist

for advice too

Yes, use higher and waterproof SPF and you definitely should get a hat when go outside except for swimming or outdoor sport activity.

Is there any way you could wait until the fall to do the peels? That way, you wouldn't have to worry about higher sun sensitivity after the peels. When I was taking Retin-A, I got the worst sunburn I've ever had (3rd degree sunburn with blood blisters), so if you could wait until fall that would probably be safer. Skin treatments sometimes make you more sensitive than you could believe. If not, then get the highest SPF you can find and re-apply it often.

i don't know what to do now..i'm such a baby about peels! i also found i am going to the beach the end of june!

i want to peel! LOL

Yes, just make sure the SPF is quite high, and it had UVA and UVB proof...

I think it's Okay if you don't use any peels 5 to 7 days before going out swimming and sunbathing. Use the best sunblock possible and reapply often, like every hour.

A ´peeling isn't the "simple thing" , like a little stronger face scrub, that some people want to make us believe. You're taking off layers of your skin, and not just the dead cells, but inner layers; it makes the skin much more sensitive and with less defense against the environment. It should be done only when really needed and with indication of a dermatologist. I dont know if you ever watched an old episode of Sex and the City that Samantha did a facial peeling on the same day as a party and got a big red face. It's somewhat like that a peel will look like (not soo red, but red and sensitive).

You're young , it isn't really necessary to have a facial peeling. It's so much advertising on those kind of stuff : "you need to have a facial peeling, it will make your skin softer and younger"; "you need to do botox on your forehead" and so on; it's such a pressure to have the "perfect skin" that lots of people doesn't even notice that are spending hundreds of dollars on trying to stop the time.

I'm concerned with skin because i'm at med school and i'm doing dermatology course right now and i have theoric and practical classes with professors and they always advise us about the aesthetical proceedings and their risks, along with teaching us on how to take care of the dermatological diseases , from scabies to psoriasis, pediculosis to leprae (yeah, here on brazil it's still very common)

what peel are you gonna be using? and what percentage? in office or at home treatment?

if you do at home treatments I think you´re supposed to wear sunscreen with at least SPF 30 (better higher) for at least a week after the peel.

I just recently read in Vogue that european sunscreens are better than american ones cause some ingredients that some sunscreens have make them being considered a "medical product" instead of just "cosmetics". therefore they have to be approved by the FDA first. this can be a very long process and slows down the marketing so european sunscreens are supposed to be ahead of the US ones in terms of scientific innovation. and I´d suppose sunscreens from the asian market are equally good as european ones.

from reviews I read I can really recommend La Roche Posay or Vichy suncreens. they of course have UVA and UVB protection, and also some kind of other safety ranking than just the SPF (I forgot what it´s called). I just got my first La Roche Posay sunscreen so I have to use it and see if it´s really as good as the reviews promise

oh and La Roche Posay does a sunscreen that´s marketed (among other things) for after chemical peel use: it´s called Anthelios 40 Fluid Extreme (with SPF 40, but they have higher ones too)
