My daughter wants a ceramic flat iron for Christmas. She has thick and just below shoulder length hair. I would like to get a good one but don't know anything about these...sizes, brands, etc. Amazon has a BaBlyiss 1" on sale for $38.

My mom bought me a Ceramix hair straightener a few years ago for Christmas, and I have to say it was definitely worth the money she spent on it. I have gone through several cheaper straighteners and they just don't come close to the quality or effectiveness! It takes me 1/10th the time to do my hair... I just adore it!

I bought my friend the Solia Professional Ceramic Ion Flat Iron (1-1/4") for her b-day and she has very wavy, curly thick difficult hair and she says it works perfectly! and I can tell... she looks a million times better and her hair just looks marv.

As well... There is a thread that might help you here

I agree Charmaine! The CHI is by far the best flat iron I've tried. It was well worth the money I payed for it. I've had it for soo long and have had no problems. I not only use it to straighten my hair but its also fantastic for curling.

How curly is your daughter's hair? My hair is only slightly wavy (yet wavy enough that I could never get it straight with a blowdryer and a good straightening cream and brush, grrr!) so I haven't had a problem with the cheaper irons. I have Conair's Wet/Dry ceramic iron (it was $35 at CVS) -- while some girls on this site recommend NOT using a flat iron on dripping wet hair, with this iron I can quickly blowdry my hair so that it's pretty much dry, and then I use the hottest setting allowed for damp hair (you can use even hotter settings on dry hair), and this straightens my hair even if a few pieces are still a bit damp. It keeps my hair straight all day unless it's really humid or rainy -- but even then it doesn't get quite as wavy as it did when I styled with a blowdryer!

However, if your daughter has really curly hair, then maybe you should take the other girls' advice and get a better iron! Good luck! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I would go with a CHI if you are willing to spend that kind of money... otherwise Remington makes a tourmaline ceramic one that is inexpensive, but I hear works really well! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Straightening my hair is the only way it looks decent. I always used a cheap metal one and recently bought a ceramic one. I think the one I bought was 40.00 or something like that. If I had spent 200.00, it still would have been worth it. With a 3 year old and a 7 month old, I still have time to straighten my hair with the ceramic one. With the metal ones, it would take me about an hour and a half to get it to look decent. Now, 15 minutes later I'm out the door.

Hey, I'm that friend and I was gonna comment on this! But that's ok cos Effex0r took care of business. I too had a cheapy straightener and it took, oh, about one million years to straighten my hair with. The Solia is like heaven for my hair! My hair is espec. wirey and rough, but this makes it soft, straight, and HUMAN LIKE instead of BEAST LIKE. Highly recommended!
