I have always wondered when I see people with flawless skin are they born that way? Is there a product I don't know about? My skin in not terrible I have few pimples just kind of bumpy skin and an uneven tone ( I cannot go without makeup) I was at clinique the other day and the salewoman had beautiful skin. She says their 3 step skin care did it and she's a believer. Do you guys buy her story or is she a naturally blessed skin beauty?

Just natural, shes only trying to sell her product. If you see anyone with beautiful perfect skin its natural from when they were born. Proactiv, Clinique, Murad all that stuff can do wonders with acne, and redness but it does not help with pores, uneveness and all that... And it will still leave red marks. If there is a product out there that will make the skin beautiful please tell me haha. But as far as pores, red marks, wrinkles etc etc... its very tough to find a product that works. As a matter of fact nothing works for pores really. You can clean them out, but as we have already learned you cannot change the size of your pores.

It is partly genetic, but you can partly control it by what you put, or don't put, on your face. You need to experiment to see what works for you and your skin type.

Yes you can, just treat your skin well and it'll treat you nice as well. Just be gentle with your skin and try to understand your skin better.

I also agree on gene part.

genetics plays in an important part in how your skin looks , but how u treat it is just as important. I know my mom has great skin, and i did have great skin growing up .. but ruined it when i took it for granted ... now i have to start taking good care of my skin .. :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Ya I heard its in genes but where the heck did my acne come from??? My mom was clear, brother is clear, my dad was clear for the most part I believe...., grandpa clear, grandma clear... I have yet to meet someone in my family with bad acne now or as a kid.

it's all your fault .. lol

maybe u're like me . .. and thought if every1 had nice skin in the family, u would too. No1 in my family has bad skin. My brother smokes and drinks like no tomorrow. No1 in my family wears Mu (cousins, aunts, sisters ... etc) The onli time they would ever wear Mu is Wedding Day or something big like that. (cuz their skin is so stinkin' perfect)

After moving to America, my siblings and I have become what my parents call "Americanized" We we're always eating fast food and sit in front of the TV and finish off bags of potato chips ....

And after seeing all my friends wear Mu, i started caking foundation on, staying up late, and sleeping w/Mu on ....

i can go on .. but i think u get it

I agree with everyone its partly genetic but how you treat it makes a huge difference as well.

I think it is a combination of both. If you have horrible skin, you can make it better to a certain degree. If you were born with perfect skin, it will always be perfect. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I feel that most caucasian and asian women have the nicest skin. Fine, smooth, poreless, matte.

I completely agree. My mom has the most perfect skin and does absolutely nothing to keep it that way. Just slaps on whatever moisturizer. While on the other hand my dad had tons of acne and I inherited part of that :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> although my skin does get better with produts. Although never as perfect as my mom's skin. She is 46 but looks like shes 33 or something.

Good point, I see what you mean. I to do that also haha. I smoked for years, and I still eat crap once and a while, stay up late even on work days. I will get like 4 hrs of sleep some nights.... Maybe I need to move to somewhere more strict :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> like China or Japan where most are in bed at like 10 and living healthy lives haha.... actually I dont know that for sure :rotfl: .

I agree - my mom has good skin and I have pretty decent skin if I didnt have eczema. It will always get red despite taking good care of it...so there is not much I can do to prevent it... I just treat it well and take care of it the best I can and that is pretty much all you can do. Even if you dont have flawless skin like some lucky people, you can fake it. Take good care, don't overdue the products, and eventually your skin will get to the best it can be. Sure it may not be perfect but at least if it gets better you know you are doing something right!

The one thing I notice is that people are impatient. If they dont see results from good behavior the very next day they stop! So I think that is really important. I actually started trying to eat healthier a few months ago ... and it has made a world of a difference in my skin...but it took pretty much 4 months to REALLY make any difference.

I think it's mostly genetic... I've been lucky so far, and I'm hoping it stays that way!

I have to agree with Tyler that the woman was just yanking your chain. If anything, genetics play a part as far as her skin being incredibly clear.

My mom's side of the family has really decent skin, including my mom who has NEVER and I mean NEVER had a blemish except for ONCE in her life. On my father's side of the family, almost everyone's skin is terrible! Discoloration, zits on top of zits, oilness, SEVERE DISCOLORATION... The list goes on.

I'd say that I'm in between. My skin isn't perfect, and I do get the occasional blemish from time to time, but they aren't terribly bad.

I also think that if you take care of your skin, especially early on, you'll be rewarded later on...

But yeah, I would have to say that a majority of it has to be genetics.
