Burned myself with an iron. Any one recommend something for the scar? Besides cocoa butter?

Aloe Vera gel works great on burns! You can use it straight from the plant or almost any drugstore sells the 100% aloe vera gel in a bottle. hth

Although, many brands of aloe vera gel do have some glycerin in it to keep the texture consistent, though that shouldn't matter when dealing with burns. Go ahead and slather that stuff on. It will feel much better.

IT does feel better with aloe. It's the scar that is gonna leave that concerns me. You have scene pretty bad burn scars. I hope it is not too bad.

Once the burn is healed, you can try putting vitamin E oil on the scar. My Dr. recommended it to me after I had surgery for scarring.

Aloe and vitamin E oil, will do the trick. Why don't you like Cocoa butter, if you don't mind me asking, that seem to work great on burns as well.

there's this cream called Scarzone. you can get it at [retty much any drugstore. that works really well for scars. also mederma

You never wanna put cocoa butter on a burn. Listen to me, as a multiple time burn victim. That is one of the first things they tell you at the hospital.

Calendula Gel, works better than aloe.

i've heard this before but never tried it. isn't it made for marigolds?

I dropped a hot iron on my foot some years ago. I immediatly taped an Aloe leaf to the burned area. I kept it on over night and reapplied it the next day. I dont have a visible scar at all. Try the aloe juice.

Well, the cocoa butter, there is the cream and then there is the stick. The stick is greasy. The cream contains cocoa butter and a whole lot of other stuff, glycerin, etc...it's not so natural due to the other ingredients in the cream. I dont see visible results on me. Maybe it works for other people.

The aloe feels cool to the skin. I see it is getting dark. I'll need something later, to clear up the scar.

ouch !! cold water just after the burn, let it falling on your burn rather than dive your hand in the cold water.

then just invest in a cream for burns, i like to use biafine, it comes in various sizes, cost only a few euros and is also good on sunburns. i dunno if you can get it in the us though.

Perfectmistake suggested in an old thread toothpaste, but i never tried it.

make sure you put a good amount of cream on your burn, let it be absorbed a little then cover it with a bandage (gauze is your friend). usually i repeat that until i'm sure everything has disappeared.

Burns are serious and can get infected if your not careful. Anytime the skin is open, it is vulnerable to infection. I would suggest icing the area twice a day, with a cool wet wash cloth with ice in it, ten minutes or more. Then apply Polysporin, or what medication your now using for healing. It will help prevent infection and help the raw, exposed area heal faster. Then apply gauge over it for protection. When you can let the burned area stay uncovered for a while.

Hello Battygurl

Icing the iritated area gently with ice cubes in a cool damp wash rag. You wouldn't hold it on the burned area, you gently pat the area. Icing calms down the irritated area and helps the antibotic to penetrate the skin deeper. All burns from irons are serious and hurt like "hell" and we usually treat them ourselves with Protopic ointment or Neosporin or some over the counter aid from the pharmacy.
