Isn't brown sugar just white sugar mixed with molassas? (I don't bake much, lol) If so, then maybe the question should be: is molassas good for your face? I really don't know

Using a sugar scrub on your face might not be such a great idea, when I think of sugar granules I see them as very harsh and abrasive, which is never a good approach to face care. I have used sugar scrubs on the rest of my body though, both white sugar and brown and the only difference I noticed was that I smelled brown sugary(maple-icous!) and I just smelled sweet with the white sugar scrub. Mixing raw sugar with olive oil and applying to your body (especially elbows and knees) it in the shower is fantastic!

If you have even the slightest dry skin stay away from salt scrubs. They burn soooooo bad. I felt like I was on fire. Its like pouring salt in a new cut. On my body I like to use brown sugar or white sugar, olive oil and honey. 1/4 C sugar, 1/4 C oil,1/8 C honey mix together, slather it on and leave it on a couple of minutes then rinse off. Works wonders on my dry winter skin. I do not use this on my face. I think the sugar granules would be too abrasive. Although salt granules are finer I'm too afraid they would burn my face like the salt body scrub did.

Sugar just disrupts the pH balance of things, i.e. the pH in your mouth is generally 7.5, but when you eat candy, it drops to 5.5, allowing bacteria to grow and make cavities...Think of how delicate your skin is compared to your teeth.

I use brown sugar to scrub my face now and then, I used to do it more frequently, until I realized it was causing damage, and making the problems worse.

Also, sugar is the major cause of yeast overgrowth, which has been linked to a number of skin problems, like acne, rosacea, atopic dermatitis, 'chicken skin' etc. etc.
