So my skin has been through it this past year....

I do have a dermatologist, whom is great! i luv her

but i'm concerned her reccomendations aren't the best for me as i am African American and she's not

Well, she gave me Tazoarac (gel form) and my face peeled like crazy for days, and then i got hyperpigmentation, pimples, peeling, dryness and just miserable...

I never had pigmentation before this tazorac/hyrdoquinone/minocycline combo

I went to another derm and got Tazorac in a milder form, but the same thing happened

but less iritation... in days i was glowing and cleared up ..only for a moment!

i have been using Tazorac for 2 months now, and i have so many dark spots and pimples from time to time...my inital derm says i should come in for a peel, she said i would need about 4 (one every other week), i have since stoped my minocycline- which i think is a factor in my breaking out..i'm picking up my Rx today...

But i was reading Paula Begun's book of reccomendations this morning..i'm thinking about getting an at home peel and doing it myself...she mentioned BHA is best for oily skin, and i wanted to get some thoughts on products. I know BHA is best with a Benzol Peroxide, but will this help with my dark spots as this is what the most troubling thing on my face is at the moment....

HELP

I don't think BHA is for dark spots. BHA works underneath the skin to exfoliate the pores and reduce sebum production, it's supposed to be good for blackheads and clogged pores. AHA which exfoliates the surface of the skin works better for dark spots. You should get an AHA product. For home use chemical peels, you can order from makeupartistschoice.com. Their glycolic acid or lactic acid peels willl be good for you.

BHA isn't good for getting rid of hyperpigmentation. My derm told me that. I have some hyperpigmentation that is going away, rather fast I might add. I'm using Tri-Luma. You only have to use it once a day and only at night. There is some dryness, but since it's used at night you can use a heavier night moisturizer and only splash your face w/water in the morning and use a light moisturizer (if needed)

For Chemical peels - my skin loves the 40% lactic acid peel from MUAC. Lactic peels are good for all skin tones. I also get a higher percentage of glycolic peel once a month from my derm.

thanks patsluv!! I think i want to get the Lactic peels...that site is wonderful!

it explains everything...i'm nervous about doing a peel myself, as i dont' want to ruin my skin....but i think the Lactic sounds safe enought for me to try

Thank DC-Cutie!! I hate that i have hyperpigmentation..to be honest its pretty much gone... i used Tri Luma in conjunction with Tazorac and minocycline and i think it was too much for my skin all at once...so far, i cut out the hydroquinone products to get my colour back ( which came back rather quickly too

) but my skin tone is even, not i'm worried about the dark spots...

now i am looking to do what your doing...the lactic peel and a glycolic once a month from my derm...

are there any products I can buy in person that are lactic peels??
