Get a prescription topical ointment, from your doctor. There are several on the market. A popular one here is Metrogel.

Wash your face with luke warm water and a gentle cleanser that your doctor or pharmacist recommends.

Then apply a good sunscreen that your doctor or pharmacist recommends as well.

Stay away from anything hot like saunas, hot tubs, sunbathing - in a bed or at the beach.

Spicy foods and alcohol can aggravate Rosacea so they are best to be avoided.

Carolyn, has it all correct. i went to the dermatologist and this is the advice i got plus the perscription for Metrogell

Well, there are so many rosacea treatments on the market. What was best for me might not be best for everyone. I, personally, love LED therapy. That is, light emitting diodes. When I was diagnosed with acne rosacea, that is what helped me get off the prescription creams and pills. I mean, in like a week! Haven't been on them since. Blue light kills bacteria, red light reduces inflammation, and infrared stimulates collagen growth. A device that combines all three was very effective for my problem. Got rid of the scaling that was all over my cheeks. No more flushing. I really thought LED therapy was a lot of nonsense, until I tried it. It did seem to have some weird purging effect on me that not everyone experiences.

More than anything, though, I learned that keeping my skin moist helped me avoid flares, by maintaining the barrier that protects your face from irritants. I use water softening salts when I wash my fash, rather than slathering on moisturizers, actually. It's just salt after all, so I don't have to worry about a lot of sketchy preservatives or questionable ingredients. Since starting the softening salt washes, I was able to give up LED treatments for rosacea. I'm just too lazy to hold up a device for an hour a day! Still, I have to avoid my triggers. I can't eat too many spicy or acidic foods. Have to stay cool. I can workout, but wool or heavy materials (especially around my neck), will make my cheeks flush.

Azelaic acid, oral antibiotics, metronidazole creams or metrogel (antimicrobials) work very well for some individuals. Because combination therapy seems to work the best- I mean, oral antibiotics, topical treatments, AND avoiding your triggers- there is rarely one single best solution, I'm afraid.

BUT....

If you are really serious and willing to throw down bigger money in a dermatologist's office, you can get VBeam/ NLite (pulsed dye) or IPL treatments. These are "laser" treatments, in the sense that they use light to target the blood vessels in your skin and literally shrink or kill a portion of them. That will calm the flushing and reduce the redness associated with rosacea. Both treatments are non ablative- meaning the surface of your skin is left in tact, but you might look a little sunburned afterward. Both treatments also offer the additional rejuvenation benefits of stimulating and remodeling collagen. (I am so collagen obsessed!

My dermatologist's assistant swears by IPL for her rosacea. It completely rid her of the redness across her nose and cheeks.

Hope this helps.

Beat me to it! Sunbathing totally aggravates my rosacea. I forgot to mention that.

Yes, i read it's because sun attacks the skin's elasticity, so if i'm correct this means more space for your veins and blood to come on your cheeks.

Anyway my mom has rosacea and she likes an anti redness moisturizer made by Avène (it contains a bit of titanium dioxide for an spf 10 protection). I could never make this brand work for me, but i think it's a worth a try.

Work on your diet? Choose a product specially cater to rosacea instead of using normal skincare products. Be careful when you are looking at ingredients. You can take a look at zenmed, they have special products for rosacea.

I have rosacea too. Theres no cure. But dont smoke, try not to drink alcohol, spicy foods, dont take hot showers. Use cold water/compress on your face. DONT sun bathe. Wear sunblock for sensitive skin. But also buy cream/treatments for rosacea. Clinique has a good one...and Pevonia does but I havent tried theirs yet. I really want to, just scared because it's expensive. Chamomile tea on your face...anything calming. My rosacea isnt acne, it's always dry. So I need a good moisturizer. If anyone knows of a good one, please tell me. Or of a good rosacea ans chamomile face mask.

Thats all I got...next step is the dermatologist.
