Hi Everyone,

Let's face it, spas are big business. Whether it be a couple of hours or a several day stay, your experience in a spa can be absolutely wonderful or just downright awful.

It's great to be able to get anything from a quick "pick me up" facial to a full spa package (facial, mani/pedi, bodywork (massage, wrap, scrub, sauna)) or hair removal services (waxing, threading, tweezing or sugaring).

Tell us about your best or worst spa experience. If your experience was bad, has it put you off from ever trying it again?

I've never had any Spa bad experience and non for the best, yet.

Looking forward to hear other experiences!

My first facial was horrendous. The esthetician over extracted (which was darn painful!) and applied a whole lotta greasy products on my face. 2 hrs after the facial my face started swelling up, all red and puffy. Then I broke out horribly .... :sleepyhead:

ive never had the oppertunity to go to one.

i was thinking about a facial as a birthday present for myself, but i figured my face was nice enough and got a hoodie insted.

otherwise i want to try a hair treatment/spa thing though. thats something i could use. maybe an xmas present to myself or something.

Hi,

Improper or over extracting can be a problem. When extracting, I will not go beyond 20 mins. IMHO 30 mins or more is too much stress on the client's skin.

Has the experience completely put you off spas?

It has definitely put me off facials. I feel like the estheticians don't understand my skin. I had 2 other facials after that, one of them was not bad and the other was just ok. I didn't see any difference in my skin.

Hi,

Thanks for posting your comments. After 3 facials, I can appreciate your being put off from getting any more.:frown:

i had a back treatment and the esthetician was very heavy handed, and she mixed the product over my head and dropped stuff on my face. i think she was the problem, not the service. i would go back for another service anytime, just not with her!

some kind of celluwrap. eventhough i was looking for some kind of exfoiliating massage cellu treatment. but she said the wrap is better.

So i sweated, and was put in a hot plastic blanket, that looked really dirty, and i was wearing stringpanty.... ewww i showered when i came home....

My friend and I were recently given gift certificates. We wanted facials but didn't know for sure which type we should go with...I was thinking the microdermabrasion one, she had no idea. When I made the appt, I told the girl the above and she says she'll shcedule or a basic one and the person will just let us know which one we should do and we can get that. We ended up just getting the basic facial and afterwards were told what to come back for :-(....and of course, my lady tells me I should do the md facial :-/

The next day my friend broke out, face was bright red and hot and swollen. She ended up going to the dr and had to pay $75 to fix the damage the free gift did. She had called the spa to see what they used and if there was a suggestion but they never returned her call.

Hi,

Not having the courtesy to return a phone call? :10: ...that's just irresponsible not to mention bad customer service!

I haven't had the opportunity to go to a spa. I'd love to indulge. I've had eyebrow waxings done at salons, but that's not really the same.

I haven't had any spa experiences and I don't think I want one anymore. I don't want to risk my skin getting splotchy or red or broken out.

The best has been the Hawaiian Lomi massage I get once a year as a birthday present (well, it's a Christmas gift that I don't manage to use until my birthday).

The worst was when I went in for my first leg waxing to a spa where I'd had good experiences before. I was left feeling like a greased-up plucked chicken and my legs hurt so badly I could barely put my pants on. My mom recently went to the same place and had the same problem (about 3 years later) which is when I realized it wasn't me and I went in to get waxed again, this time by my friend's mom. I was able to pull on snug jeans immediately afterwards with NO pain at all. So no, I'm definitely not put off of spa experiences. Except the cellulite massage ones that feel nice but don't seem to do a darn thing.

I do at-home spa treatments and I think I probably do the same/better job than they do. If I got a gift certificate, I would definitely go, but I just don't want to put out that kind of money when I can get the same results at home.

my best experience was a leisurely, rest in the steam room with my sister. eucalyptus oil on hot rocks and great conversation. it was the best! sorry, no good service stories yet, but i'm keeping hope alive!
