best matte lipstick?

Can anyone recommend some good matte lipsticks? Or stains or lip pencils if those work for you? Just anything that's got good pigment and is not shiny or shimmery.

NYX and Nars both have matte lipsticks. I am sure other companies do too but these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. You can always use lip liner since that is generally REALLY matte.

Revlon has mate lippies too but havent tried any of them yet.

I second the recommendation to check out NARS.  The velvet matte lip pencils are fantastic. They also have pure matte and semi-matte lipstick lines, but I haven't personally tried either.

I love ELFs matte lip colors! They have a pretty good color collection, they're very matte, stay on well, and best of all, only cost $3!

The Kate Moss Rimmel Lipsticks are fantastic if you are looking for a Matte lipstick for little money

IMO nothing can beat the look and feel of Nars matte lip pencil. Expensive but worth every cent. Just get the Nars or MUFE sharpener as well or it can be tricky to sharpen. Cruella is the classic red but all the colors are great. Lasts. Won't smudge or bleed. Non drying. Looks beautiful !

I like the Nars too. I also lovelovelove the Tarte matte Lipsurgence tints. Hope is my go-to, but I have other colors in matte and I really like them. The non-matte Tarte lipsurgence colors so far have just not worked for me.

Thanks for all of the responses! I'll be sure to check everything out. I had heard about the Nars and Tarte pencils but hadn't done any research. I guess I gotta head to Sephora and give them a test!

Occ lip tars I second rimmel they're amazing!! Smashbox has a matte red that is perfect too. I'm currently going through a lip addiction haha

Are all the Rimmel Kate Moss Collection lipsticks matte? I have a hard time when it doesn't expressly say it haha

I've been curious about the lip tars. So it goes on like a gloss but dries like a matte?

NYX All the way! If you like bright red oranges check out Nyx Indie Flick! It's a staple for me Pure Red (also Nyx) is a gorgeous red as well! You can also check out Nyx Matte Lip Creams. I'd recommend Antwerp (its a pretty sort of light coral shade).

Also do not discount the wet n wild ones! If you like more neutral mattes Wnw has a gorgeous light peach shade called Just Peachy and another lovely one called Think Pink (light pink of course).

yep. the set from sephora is perfect. melange you can wear to work, while vintage is a great winter night out. havent tried the other ones lol  i absolutely love the finish!

and the rimmel some say matte, i read somewhere theyre coming out with more colors next year. for $5 its great great quality. you can buy more colors

i bought a smashbox matte lipstick $20 and i prefer the one from rimmel $5, i could have bought 4!

Agreed.  Here I am wearing a NARS matte lippie in Terre de Feu.

I'm also a fan of Revlon's matte lipsticks.  My favorite one is Cocoa Craving and it's an exact dupe for a MAC one (taupe).

I absolutely adore the Tarte Matte Lipsurgence. I just wish they had more light and neutral shades to choose from.

I like NYC lip stains and Barry M Matte lipsticks

Illamasqua has BEAUTIFUL matte lip sticks and they are also very pigmented and long lasting. OCC lip tars are great as long as you use the right primer which IMO is the Too Faced Lip Insurance, it makes ALL the diffrence. My favorite most outlasting liquid lip stick that you can rock matte is the Make Up Forever aqua rouges. they are double ended with the lip color and a clear gloss sealer at the end. I still put on the gloss after the color to seal the color on (also makes it feel less drying and like you're wearing nothing on your lips) and then i blot the gloss and have beautiful matte lips all day. If not this liquid lipstick, Stila and Kat von D sells a liquid long wear lip stick that is matte and very pigmented as well.
