looking for something more economical and have picked up some Witch Hazel (less than $2.50) but don't know if I use it straight or add water. I plan to just pour it into my Dermalogica spray bottle. Thoughts anyone????

welcome to MuT!

i don't have an answer for you, but hopefully someone will chime in soon.

i used a Witch Hazel astringent for a year. It was a very good toner IMO

I switch to a more expensive Biotherm toner and and smells much better but the witch Hazel did as good of a job IMO.

I use witch hazel as a toner sometimes (i'm not big on toners in general), and i love it. It reduces redness and it smells good. I don't think you have to mix it with water unless its not distilled I guess, not too sure. On the label of my witch hazel it says "distilled".

It depends on what you use a toner for and what you're looking for in a toner.

I don't think you have to dilute...I"ve used it as a toner before too. Very gentle.

I use witch hazel on occassion. I just put some straight from the bottle onto a cotton pad and wipe my face. No extra water needed.

I actually stopped using toner when my dermatologist told me I could use Rosewater witch hazel. I love the smell, it's cheaper than the dermalogica I was using and it made my skin feel sooooooo soft....

Witch hazel does not need to be diluted. Just use a cotton ball and pat on. It is gentle and soothing.

Does the Witch Hazel contain any alcohol? If it does, I wouldn't put it on my face. If it is alcohol free, that should be ok.

No, I just looked on my bottle and it just has hydrogen peroxide and purified water. I dont use toner, but on occasion I use witch hazel when I feel my face needs it. I had first heard about in one of Paula Begoun's books.

i use it sometimes. it soaks up oil well. it is very savvy and it's natural. be sure to test it on a patch of skin instead of using it on your whole face. it worked great for me, but it made my mom get a huge rash!!

i use it all the time and i dont mix it with anything , its a nice toner for me

i used to, but i didn't care for the smell (it smelled like burning to me). it worked fine, though.

I use witch hazel with rosewater you could also use lavender water or what ever flower water you want so if the smell bothers you you can always fix that

. I love it. Its doesnt strip & my face feels soft afterwards & is way cheaper than buying toner.

As far as I know witch hazel is from a plant. Witch Hazel is an astringent produced from the leaves and bark of the North American shrub Witch-hazel. I guess different brands may add stuff but the only time I have seen it with alc is when its a premade witchhazel toner.

I use it when i am more oily than usual. Since my skin can sometimes be dry i avoid using at those times as it seems to make it more dry. I don't dilute, just apply with a cotton ball. It is very inexpensive and also helps take the sting out of a sunburn or bug bite!

Hi,

I used to use Witch Hazel when I was in my teens. I didn't dilute it. Now I use toners that do not contain SD alcohol (e.g. Dermalogica's Multi Active Toner).

Hi Leza
Did you stop using witch hazel because it contains alcohol? I thought it was natural and alcohol-free.

Hi,
As a teenager, I stopped using the witch hazel simply because my skin was very oily and it wasn't helping.

It is. like I said premade witchhazel toners may contain alc but witchhazel itself doesnt I could never use it if it did. Witch hazel shouldnt be drying in fact its supposed to be good for the skin. Everyone skin is different though.
