Ok so how do american stylists get that sexy huge hair on you lot? In the Uk if you go into a salon and ask for a blowdry you'll get poker staight hair with little volume and as BIG hair is due to be a massive look this season I figured I'd better ask the people in the know.

A lot of stylists here are all about the speed & quantity. Which, in most cases isn't really the greatest way to build a good following. They want you in and out so they can get on to the next person & the next $$. This isn't always the case, but in a busy salon - don't expect to be there all day chit-chatting... lol Of course if you want a full blowout - you'd probably be paying for all that extra time & attention. (Again, it's not ALWAYS the case, but often) That being said... stylists want your hair dried ... FAST. This usually means getting out all the excess water and blowing the hair all around until it's almost dried. THEN they start styling it. Drying someone elses hair is easier than doing it yourself, because you can keep the brush & dryer constantly moving. Salons here also usually have full access to top of the line styling products. Another trick is combing the hair upward as you blowdry - so the roots are dried 'against the grain' making it a bit fuller. I'm not sure how salons in the UK dry hair - but I'm guessing they dry downward, from start -to-finish, and try for that flat 'polished' look...
