Alpha Hydroxy or Beta Hydroxy?

Which hydroxy acid is best for exfoliating and getting rid of acne marks/blemishes?? Alpha Hydroxy or Beta Hydroxy?

Beta Hydroxy disolves sebum better, but a good AHA and BHA is awesome! 4% of each daily will give good results.

This thread should be on skin care talk; but anyways i still think that when it comes to skin care and remedies , a dermatologist should be consulted first, since you can easily scar/burn/have hyperpigmentation/discoloration on your face when using a facial product incorrectly.

Hi I purchased this from walgreens http://www.walgreens.com/store/produ...=0&id=prod8376 and I felt that there was some (but not complete) lightening pretty quickly and it's much cheaper than the Alpha Hydrox brand. I even felt it worked a little better. I went from Walgreens brand to the Alpha Hydrox brand back to the Walgreens one.

Just try and research the products before you purchase, because if the pH on them is out of whack, then the active ingredient won't be effective.

well,,,how about in CONJUCTION with retin-A? which hydroxy acid is best for exfoliation/application during the daytime? maybe a good lotion with something in it?

DON'T use acids during the day - they make your skin very sensitive to light. Only at night, and use a high SPF during the day. I've heard good things about MaMa Lotion (sold at skincarerx.com), and am going to try it as soon as I start working again.

aha's i've been told are better for sun-damaged, ageing skin. bha's are better suited

for acne. but, that not written in stone, i don think. u might want to consult w/ a dermatologist.
