Their are over 200 varieties of aloe vera and the most potent kind you can use is aloe barbadensis miller.  This is the cadillac of all the aloe vera plants out there.  Aloe vera should be clear, not green.  If it's green there's almost always artficial colors in it, or ground up aloe leaves which isn't healthy.

I would like to try Aloe for myself...but I shy away because of my super sensitive skin. I had a severe allergic reaction to "L'bri " products. They use aloe in all of their beauty products. I can't say exactly if my reaction was from the aloe or other ingredients in their products. But I never want to go thru that experience again. Red cheeks that burned and a sandpaper like rash all over my face. It took a good 2 months to heal and feel somewhat normal again. It was devastating to someone who loves wearing makeup. I know the benefits of aloe sound amazing?

You could do a patch test behind the ear.  Take a small amount and wait 24 hrs to see if you have a reaction.

Well technically an allergic reaction is possible, after all the original plant we get the gel from is a cactus, and i assume one can be allergic to cactus.

Anyway, FYI we get a clear liquid from the plant, then they add gelifying ingredients to turn it into a gel.

Try getting a tube of pure aloe vera, see if you have a better luck. It's an interesting plant as i heard it can also be used to soothe sunburns, but i haven't tested it.
