Hi I am new here so I hope I post in the right place

Recently I had like a small rash on my hand near my thumb, little red dots that started to peel I guess you could say. You could rub your finger over it and feel them, it was weird! This was on my right hand.

They finally started to vanish and then I went to a MAC launch party tonight with my mum and had eyeshadows, lipsticks and glosses on my hand. The rash reappeared but it is also more spread out over the back of my hand.

This time it is also on the back of my left hand! All I had on that hand was one blush.

I used a MAC wipe to remove the make-up from my hands and it really aggrevated the rash and made it more red and sting.

They have calmed down a little now, 6 hours later and if I rub my finger over them it feels like they are raised.

The first time this happened it was only on my right hand and I had been practicing my sisters make-up, so I did have make-up on my hand then.

I was training as a Make-up artist for 8 months doing makeups daily and never came across this, it has just started.

I am going to my derm next week but just wondered if you lovely ladies had any info as whats going on

?

Am I getting allergic to mac products?

(earlier this year I had a reaction to one of their lipsticks.)

Thanks for any info

If you had the rash prior to using Mac wipes, then my guess is that the wipes only agravated the condition.

Have you used the wipes on your face or somewhere else that the initial rash didn't affect? If you have and no reaction occured, then it might be safe to say that you aren't allergic to the wipes.

With so many chemicals (and natural products) in make up and skin products, its hard to know what is going to cause an irritation.

Have you heard of scabies? Check out this site and see it the pics/description seem familiar - Scabies - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Without seeing it and without being a Doctor, I don't have a clue what it could be. It would appear that if you had it previously, the wipes merely aggravated what you already. These are questions best reserved for your doctor.

I agree with Carolyn... Sounds like you had the rash first and you agravated it. What I would do with a similar rash is to try some over the counter hydrocortizone cream to try to calm it down and maybe an triple antibiotic creame to halt any possible infection.... then see what your dermatologist says.

I understand how you feel as a few days ago I suddenly got a very dry patch of skin on my wrist, it stings a bit if I get anything with alcohol on the side of it (e.g. perfume). I'm just putting a bit of Solar Oil on it every day which is helping it a lot. All I can guess is that something I've used (soap? fragrance? makeup?), or touched has aggravated it. This has happened before but I am none the wiser.

What I suggest is that you don't put anything on it, wash it in water only - no soap (or if you have to, a sensitive skin soap free cleanser) & see how it goes for a few days. It may get better, but if it doesn't at least you're seeing your Derm soon.
