I've been having trouble with pimples lately and I've been using ProActive for a while now and while it did seem to help a tiny bit, it hasn't helped much. Does anyone have any other suggestions of products to get rid of pimples (and marks from old pimples)? I also have a problem with redness on my chin, nose, and cheeks and I'm tired of having to use so much makeup to cover it up (which of course doesn't help with the pimples). Any products that help with redness.. but don't cause more pimples? I'd prefer to stick with things I can buy at places like a drug store. Any suggestions would be great, I would be so thankful if something could actually fix these problems!

At this point, you should probably see a dermatologist--just to be on the safe side..

I disagree about going to see a dermatologist for acne, particularly if it's only mild.

Do you exfoliate ever? Adding an exfoliater to my routine and using it 2-3 times a week made a BIG difference. Neutrogena is a very good line, it's available at drugstores, works well, and is recommended by dermatologists.

Also be sure you're drinking plenty of water. It might sound stupid but water flushes out the toxins in your body, and may help with your skin. Be sure you eat a somewhat healthy diet too.

Hope this helps

i decided to try acne.org the regimen and it actually worked! for me at least!

its not rly bout the brand u use, its just the BP i think

u should rly try it!

I've heard pretty good reviews about the Clearasil line. Try a Zinc supplement too. It works, believe it or not. Might take a couple weeks or so to see the change, but I used to take a 50mg supplement and it made a big difference when I used to break out.

If your acne is mild, you may not need to see a derm -- but if it is persistent or becoming something that is a really big annoyance, you definitely should see one.

Helping acne is in the simplicity of it all, usually. Use a mild cleanser, an acne product (like Proactiv Repairing Lotion), and an oil-free moisturizer. You should see A LOT less irritation, and probably more results while putting less benzoyl peroxide on your face...because it is in proactiv's cleanser as well -- not to mention you're exfoliating with those little beads in the cleanser, and doing it too much doesn't help your skin, either.

I think that giving your skin time to chill and be simple would help the redness. You can try looking in the drugstore for Eucerin Redness Relief -- I am not sure if they discontinued it or not, but I know it was good stuff.

i agree, if it's mild, probably the derm is not necessary. be patient, because it can take time to get a clear face.

use a gentle cleanser, the harsh ones are worse than the symptoms. exfoliate like two times a week, and do masks (once a week is enough). use a gentle non comedogenic moisturizer, and use sunscreen. i second the zinc supplement. having a healthy diet and drinking enough water will benefit to your entire body body, including your skin so make sure it's the case.

eucerin is a good brand, but i haven't tested the product Solimar refers to (it still exists in my country).

If you have never gone to a derm, it might not be a bad idea. They see all kinds of acne and know what products do and don't work.

I use Retin A - helps get rid of black and white heads, helps exfoliate skin and helps rejuvinate collagen.

IMO to get rid of redness from old pimples, its a matter of the skin shedding old cells - usually every 28 days. Retin A helps this skin turn over time speed up. And it helps exfoliate dead cells that won't wash away.

I also use a topical acne medication called Neo Medrol. My zits are cystic so they stay around forever, are very painful and they will scar.

Whenever a zit starts to show, i apply a drop on it, twice a day.

In 2-3 days, it is gone.

Both Retin A and Neo Medrol are prescibed so this is another reason why a trip to the derm is warranted.
